I dont like Balance in this deck. Balance is best when you are wrathing/twisting/armageddoning...none of which seem likely to happen in this deck. This deck wasnts creatures in play, so you will most likely be hurting yourself there, plus it needs several lands to function. Balance is sometimes randomly powerful and game-winning, but in this deck I think it will end up as a dead card much more often then in a deck like landstill, which is better positioned to make it broken.

maybe i jumped the gun with removing it but every time i drew it it was a dead card. either i would lose all my dudes or some of my lands. I thought that it was subpar, meybe ill try it again.

I'd probably remove them. They are week sauce game 1 and then game 2, you have Meddling Mage & Canonist in your board to deal with combo, and you already have game vs Aggro. What are you bringing in then, that you need Trinkets for so badly?

I would clear them out, as well as the Explosives, and make room for Compost in the SB (because MBC/Pox/Eva will own this deck) and maybe Null Rod.

The absense of Balance also seems to be a glaring problem. Balance is a game wrecker.

I personally think that sometime between EST 13:00 and EST 16:00 Saturday are the best times for the PRE so that non US players can also play in it. Any time later than 16:00 EST will mean midnight for those players or even later for some (including me).

I don't know if I can be there yet but I most definately want to. Sometime this month I will also buy my missing cards for the deck I have in mind and then it will all depend on testing. Hopefully I can be there because it sounds like fun.

Don't forget the conspiracy theory portion.

The complaint and shutdown happened the night before the big Zendikar release online, so it was an evil competitor that did it! Probably Microsoft or the Freemasons.

  • Fun with Vanguard #14: Eureka!   15 years 32 weeks ago

Yes permanent is the correct reading until they decide otherwise
it is bugged and you may be confused with Hypergenesis

  • Tribal Apocalypse: The Fourth Seal   15 years 32 weeks ago

Apologies, I should probably have been clearer. I did mean that sideboards could exist with the support of wizards updating tribal into such a form. Obviously without that, it would be very difficult to keep track of what was and wasn't legal.

Wow. You mentioned Inquest magazine and just unlocked a plethora of memories I haven't accessed in a long time! right on

  • Fun with Vanguard #14: Eureka!   15 years 32 weeks ago

With the amount of updating that Oracle has needed is that the correct reading?

  • Fun with Vanguard #14: Eureka!   15 years 32 weeks ago

Oracle text does say permanent. Yes, it should work for Planeswalkers.

Can I give your comment red mana? :)

If anyone "tl;dr" and skipped it, at least read the paragraph that begins with "The problematic mentality that some players of any game bring to the table is that their opponent should play in a way to help them win."

I will add though that some players are not after the win. In David Sirlin's famous Street Fighter example there's nothing else to do but try to win. So the scrubs making up their own rules in that game are doing it so that they don't have to adapt to something. But In Magic you could be trying to do something expressive, without trying too hard to win. Like play an artist deck or something. But to that I have to say: learn to play around it. Learn to block, learn how to hold back, learn how to build a deck with a curve and more than 18 lands. (See what I did there?) Basically don't concede or yell at me if I play Counterspell.

  • Fun with Vanguard #14: Eureka!   15 years 32 weeks ago

Not a bug. Read the card. It says land, creature, enchantment, or artifact. Not permanent.

Wait sec. *opens a locked box containing the cherished Legends card* HEY! It DOES say permanent! Someone call MaGo and ask him to reword the card. It should allow planeswalkers.

As for the article, I'm not interested in Vanguard, but I love Eureka, so that scores major points with me. :)

  • Fun with Vanguard #14: Eureka!   15 years 32 weeks ago

Nice article. I'm looking into trying out the Vanguard format one of these days, I just can't settle on the avatar I want to use...

Anyways, great ideas, and great usage of Eureka! I'd love to see some playtests with this deck.

  • Fun with Vanguard #14: Eureka!   15 years 32 weeks ago

is eureka still bugged [does not allow planeswalkers to enter weaksauce]

  • Whiffy's Lunch Box 39 - Rainbow tongue of doom.   15 years 32 weeks ago

its really agresivly costed, but in a format like extended 5cc creatures are on the very high end of the spectrum. I did mean its price tag though. its going for 50 in paper and now 40 online. Thtas pretty rediculos for an in print card in one of the most opened sets in magics history.

  • Whiffy's Lunch Box 39 - Rainbow tongue of doom.   15 years 32 weeks ago

"The first time a pro tour was won by a planeswalker, and not an overcosted creature." I assume the creature you are talking about is Baneslayer, whose CMC is really low for what it is.

Unless by overcosted you mean REALLY FRIGGIN EXPENSIVE, in which case I agree wholeheartedly.

  • Whiffy's Lunch Box 39 - Rainbow tongue of doom.   15 years 32 weeks ago

very good article, and i think every 1 can see why banelsayer is so expensive

  • Tribal Apocalypse: The Fourth Seal   15 years 33 weeks ago

lol, top didn't get banned because of etherium sculptor - it got banned because the game play got ridiculously slow with everyone running tops and shuffle effects.

  • Tribal Apocalypse: The Fourth Seal   15 years 33 weeks ago

Extended is more or less the way to go to prevent most of the abusive combos in the format and narrowing down the cards you would need to ban if any. Also as for the top being banned look at WHEN it got banned...When we got etherium sculptor. AKA when extended got a turn 3 inf storm combo.

  • Tribal Apocalypse: The Fourth Seal   15 years 33 weeks ago

no one ever argued standard doesnt work just that restricts the tribes to the point of boring...and my deck could win without quillspike, i would just have to change a few things.

  • Tribal Apocalypse: The Fourth Seal   15 years 33 weeks ago

In todays tribal wars, it was 2 standard decks that made the final table both playing tribes. I dont mind seeing combos within decks, however i do not agree making a tribes deck around a combo. if a combo is spotted and slipped in then fine, but as shards will know the quillspike combo deck he played would not stand a chance of winning taking out those 4 cards. i believe extended may be the best bet, getting rid of classic and crazy combos.

  • Tribal Apocalypse: The Fourth Seal   15 years 33 weeks ago

Bah one of these days. I was heading to bed around that time. :p
