as far as pauper premiere events nothing rotates but i believe he is talking about standard pauper which is currently a very successful PRE tournament. It follows the normal standard rotation schedule. Hence lrowyn, morningtide, shadowmoor, and eventide are all rotating out sometime this month

there is a 2/2 flyer for WW with Kicker 1W target creature gains flying until the end of turn. That might fit better solely because even late you can play it and its kicker and make the crusher has flying... i think Kor Aeronaut is its name

  • Steel Yourself   15 years 35 weeks ago

what do you mean by pauper rotation. I am very new to pauper. Do certain cards rotate out with zendikar coming in?

  • Budgeted Resources - Strolling through the countryside   15 years 35 weeks ago

Yes that was a card I looked at as well, I think it would be a good replacement for the Silver Knight. I'm not sure what's comming up in Zendikar maybe there's something there as well.

If you weren't trolling you sure gave that impression. And if it was "OMG trolling?!?" instead of "Trolling?" I'd still be inclined to agree. One is a semi sarcastic commentary on the commonality of trolling online and the other is a genuine question. (I wasn't sure if you were doing it intentionally or not.) Your comments towards the article were hostile and overboard. If you don't want to be called on it, don't do it. :)

I agree with your comments about the sideboard. The point of tech is to deal with current relevant problems. And it is odd to de-tune a deck to make it "casual" by replacing key cards with sub par (but less costly) cards. It is an interesting approach in terms of studying whether a deck can be made to be more modular but inevitably a well tuned deck can not really survive de-tuning without a major overhaul in the design. On the other hand nothing ventured nothing gained and it hurt no one except those unwilling to see such an experiment in progress.

  • Budgeted Resources - Strolling through the countryside   15 years 35 weeks ago

in this case you may want to suggest replacements for silver knight since it rotates in a week or two..im thinking cerodon yearling

  • Budgeted Resources - Strolling through the countryside   15 years 35 weeks ago

    1.
I assumed as much. Perhaps it is just me, but I just find it odd to combine tournement-placing decks with budget concerns. I mean, is there really a player demographic that wants to play competitive lists without spending money on it? Seems like Pauper would be less of an headache than play a 20$ deck in Extended TP.

    2.
Yes, I read the tables. What I meant was an analysis/discussion over the importance of say Jitte for BDW, and how one can get away with cutting a MVC like that - or in your case not get away with it.

    3.
    Fair enough.

    4.
What I meant was that you can't just use the SB of an old deck. A sideboard is designed to deal with a certain meta, and that more than anything is the reason why straight up net decking is stupid.

I guess my "complaint(s)" does sound a bit harsh, but I find it amusing how it was met with comments like "OMG TROLLING!?". All I really tried to do was point out how I found it odd, that you tinker with an old net deck for no apparent reason, but if your goal simply is to have fun then that's fine, I guess. Still not very informative, though.

I thought the article was pretty good, and I don't feel he changed cards willy nilly he explained why he made the changes imo. The point of the article seemed to be make a decent deck that can win, and perhaps worthy a tp spin to fine tune it.

  • Budgeted Resources - Strolling through the countryside   15 years 35 weeks ago

Finks is one of those cards I'm never sure if people will have or not 4 is $8 which is a lot.

I dont usually go for pain lands in 2 colour decks as it dosent always pay off. If I had the finks then maybe. In the second build I should have, I forgot about them as I dont have any Battlefield Forge's myself.

for instance trap will benifet in thresh over the uncastable lotv. and w/ sensei it can dodge discard. lotv may be better at stopping dredge but sometimes all you need is a little time to reset the gy ala crypt, relic.

I’m sorry that you didn’t like the article but all the points you made were actually covered in the article itself.

    1. My articles are for casual players with limited budgets

    2. I always include a table to show which cards are being removed and the reason why. Or added if I make the deck from scratch which is the usual case.

    3. Regarding the ” I also find it amusing how you just pick a random deck list and decide to play it, not even considering how it would fit into the current meta.” I’m not worried if said deck would not fit into the current meta, I play for fun.

    4. Regarding your sideboard query, I don’t think it’s very hap hazard at all considering the meta. I used the cheaper alternatives that were available that done the same sort of thing as Manfred Leitner used which is 100% accurate to what I’ve seen in the TP room over the last few weeks.

Maybe I shouldn’t have built around a proven deck, it was a one off as I liked the deck so much I wanted to show it to my readers in a budget form that could be bought and played with for a low amount of dollars.

    Thanks for the comment :)

  • It's All About Mana When Dealing With Ichorid!   15 years 35 weeks ago

I think trap will redefine the classic format, it is a instant... In my opinion this is a big thing because it can't be destroyed or bounced. For now I would not know how dredge can handle this spell in a consistent manor.

I think Leyline can be replaced as hate card of choice by the trap. This will make life alot easier for the non dredge player, because he doesn't need to mulligan into it.

I hope that this card will make dredge a bit weaker, and give other decks a fighting change.

  • Championship S7, Event Report   15 years 35 weeks ago

Doh! I actually knew that but for some reason that's what came to mind. Probably because when they were first introduced someone complained they'd be a good way to autorack up QPs. Anyway 97 is an impressive amount for a month, its an insane amount for 1 week. The guy must never lose. :)

  • Budgeted Resources - Strolling through the countryside   15 years 35 weeks ago

I agree that the very harsh insults were entirely uncalled for (trolling?). Sure the article has weaknesses but it is far from unreadable as Wyrath tries to state. Yes I think it could be better and this author has done some great articles in the past to compare this to, however I have read far worse articles on this site. Subpar for the writer? sure maybe. For this site? Not by a long shot. Well that's my opinion.

  • Budgeted Resources - Strolling through the countryside   15 years 35 weeks ago

The covering cards rotating out of ext was a request from my previous article which maybe I should have linked to.

I didn’t feel that building a deck with cards that were just going to be rotated was a good idea as my articles are based towards casual players with low budgets (in this case EXT players) and there would be no point in them buying these cards unless they were willing to following the cards rotation into classic.

  • Budgeted Resources - Strolling through the countryside   15 years 35 weeks ago

    a bit harsh, bro.
im a Daily Event/Premier Event player and I haven't played in TP room in ages... yet whatever, this article was good for the 3-5 min. it took to read it. =)

  • It's All About Mana When Dealing With Ichorid!   15 years 35 weeks ago

I dont think the Traps are going to be played against Dredge. Leyline, Crypt, and Relic are just better imo due to being more useful against other decks. People already dedicate enough SB to hate against Dredge.

  • Budgeted Resources - Strolling through the countryside   15 years 35 weeks ago

I enjoyed the read, but I didn't understand how the article turned from covering cards rotating out of EXT into playing a deck based around Countryside Crusher. It seems the logical step would have been to build a deck around one of the soon to be rotating cards out of the Onslaught Block in order to squeeze out the last bit of "juice" that the card has left in EXT.

  • It's All About Mana When Dealing With Ichorid!   15 years 35 weeks ago

Therapy can nuke out traps and I may bump it up to 4.

  • It's All About Mana When Dealing With Ichorid!   15 years 35 weeks ago

as i said you online, really great article mate !

i really like the creative decks you're always building ... even when there are flying hyppos into ;)

  • Rogue Play - Dawn of a New Era Part I   15 years 35 weeks ago

I question the quantity more than the quality of the card. I can easily see 2 in a deck without any concern.

However with 4 you are increasing the chance that you will draw multiple Emerias and not enough Plains to trigger them, and you are increasing the chance you will have multiple "enters the battlefield tapped" lands in your first couple of turns, which may prevent you from playing a key spell in the first couple of critical turns of the game.

I can just think of nightmare situations where you have 2-3 Emerias in your opening hand.

It makes me long for extended, where I'll be able to execute your loop, but with yosei in place of kortographer. That's going to feel good!
