Get off your high horse kid. Chances are you have a mute function somewhere on your computer. Use it, watch the videos, be entertained by watching players much much better than you (and me for that matter.)and have fun with the game man.

I'm sorry that you decided the music was terrible. Next time, I'll hit up some Taking Back Sunday, some My Chemical Romance, and some Dethklok, hopefully with your permission, you know, because I absolutely have to please you and you alone when I do something like this.

Hopefully everyone else can see the sarcasm in this statement, If I'm doing something poorly besides picking out tracks to record to (which by the way, have to contain no profanity, so that takes out a ton of my catalog) let me know, what would you want to listen to?

  • Games People Play: Standard MOCS Edition   15 years 35 weeks ago

I'm really glad to see the end of standard, and look forward to Zendikar finally coming out.

Also, Joshua Radin is very talented, and I am a huge fan, thankfully Scrubs exists. :)

  • Championship S7, Event Report   15 years 35 weeks ago

Jyalt, as a writer I try to provide my readers with as much data as I can about my matches. I take this example from long time Magic writers and I think it pays off. That is why I am so annoyed with the replays being broken continuously. Hence my comment about your top 8. Sure it's offtopic a bit but there isn't any rule that says you can't add more to an article to beef it up a little. :) People love success stories after a bad bad. Just my 2.5 cents.

I agree your build might have been slightly more tuned but you did the best you could with the resources at hand. (This is a major reason I don't compete in ticketed events often other than draft occasionally.) And I also agree that O-rings are not as good as path and unmake when your likely targets are creatures but they do take out many other annoying things (including other O-rings).

  • Championship S7, Event Report   15 years 35 weeks ago

Intriguing but I believe wotc does look for things like that which is not hard to spot if they keep logs (which anyone running a server should do.) Also I believe that was 97 points for the season not week.

  • Championship S7, Event Report   15 years 35 weeks ago

How does someone get 97 freaking points in a week, thats insane.

I wish I had 8 comps with 8 accounts, seems so easy to get 15pts by playing 8 man constructed by yourself, 48 tix entry fee (6 * 8) and 48 tix payout (12 packs * 4), you could loose a nickel or dime a pack if you botted them. 1 QP for the winning account every time you finish.

  • Waiting for Godot: First Impressions of Zendikar Limited   15 years 35 weeks ago

Reading Mark Rosewater's article today reminded me that Harrow originated as a Tempest card, not as an Invasion card, as I suggested in this article. I'd totally forgotten about that! I played a lot of Invasion limited, so I've always remembered Harrow as an Invasion original...

I'll agree with all of those - and I'll put them in Part two - Shadowmoor and Eventide

  • Pauper to the People- Avenger Assembled!   15 years 35 weeks ago

    hi spike

i think will be useful an article with the decks of the metagame with the possible hate vs the tier 1 deck MBCu
    tnx

  • 100 Singleton - Major Deck Breakdown   15 years 35 weeks ago

I would tend to agree with this statement for tier 1 tournament quality decks, which is pretty much what I write about.

However if you're going for casual, just about anything is fair game.

  • 100 Singleton - Major Deck Breakdown   15 years 35 weeks ago

Well, I never claimed to be an expert on the deck editor. I claim ignorance on the only land search field. I didn't know you can right click and do only-this type.

I knew about the "and" and "or" operator but I didn't know about the "not" operator. I'm glad you mentioned that one.

Thank you. I learned something new today.

  • Games People Play: Standard MOCS Edition   15 years 35 weeks ago

ZOMFG internet emo does music crticism! What next?

(Presumably, you've watched the tomkong vs dev g3 semifinals 46 times to make up for it, on the back of the music being astounding. Either that, or turned off your sound?)

  • Pauper to the People- Avenger Assembled!   15 years 35 weeks ago

I like the Leech Aggro deck although it seems light on removal, but has some intriguing disruption.

  • Games People Play: Standard MOCS Edition   15 years 35 weeks ago

that's amazing...I didn't have that problem at all...I guess the speakers on my computer don't put out sound when I tell them not to

For videos without comentary I don't see how you can possibly truly have a complaint about the audio not being to your liking. You could offer "constructive" comments regarding what his reader base may prefer to listen to, but to say you couldn't stand to watch the videos because of the music is a lame pot shot. Besides that, he even listed the music used before hand so you could turn off your sound before you had to agonize over listening to even one second of the music if you elected to do so.

  • Championship S7, Event Report   15 years 35 weeks ago

My top 8 at the weekend singleton didn't have anything to do with season 7, so I didn't think it belonged in my S7 report beyond a brief mention. Next week, my singleton deck will be up with 'decks of the week' and you can check it out there. After going 5-1 through the swiss I lost against Grindstone control in the quarterfinals. Clockwise, his deck was more controlling than mine, so it wasn't a big shock.

While I didn't make play errors in S7, I definitely made a construction error by not using Hallowed Burial over Austere Command. Also at this point I think the O-rings in the SB should be the 4th copies of Path and Unmake.

Yeah, I had a bit of problem with replays, and I didn't think I needed to have long game descriptions for the top 8 since wizards will likely do 'official' coverage. It's nice to see this article posted so quickly after I wrote it. Good job Mr. Editor.

  • Games People Play: Standard MOCS Edition   15 years 35 weeks ago

Awesome Josh. IM kinda glad to see the end of this current standard. But i loved the last song you used and the first Joshua Radin song just because its from the best and saddest episode of scrubs of all time.

  • The Lorwyn Block Shopping List   15 years 35 weeks ago

Great analysis but you missed a few of my favorites below.

Boggart Ram-Gang (best 3 drop haste creature ever)
Kitchen Fink (he's so unappreciated, but I never hate drawing him)
Bloom Tender (a combo in of it self)
Oversoul of Dusk (enough said almost impossible for a red deck to deal with)
Wort, the Raidmother (it's pretty good in the right deck)
Firespout (pretty good sweeper for green decks)
Demigod of Revenge (5/4 haste flyer w/ that can resurrect itself that's good)
Mirrorweave (a casual card that can be change a game)
Oona, Queen of the Fae (I always cringe when I see this hit the table in a control deck)
Stillmoon Cavalier (protection black/white and a flyer great card)

  • Games People Play: Standard MOCS Edition   15 years 35 weeks ago

I can't watch half these videos because the music is so terrible.

  • 100 Singleton - Major Deck Breakdown   15 years 35 weeks ago

Actually chances are pretty high that if it is only playable in draft that it is not playable in 100CS. I find the bar for cards to be useful in this format to be higher than Standard in most cases. There are exceptions, but it is a classic based format.

  • 100 Singleton - Major Deck Breakdown   15 years 35 weeks ago

Another Great Article, ArchGenius. A few comments though.

Formatting wise it may be useful to make your tables 3 columns wide. This way you can put your card list in the left column, your pictures in the middle one, and then you descriptive text in the far right one instead of above and below the tables. This would make the article a bit more compact.

I was a bit confused that you said you set mana cost= 0 to search for lands but have to filter through arifacts and other 0cc stuff. Why not just right click on the land icon and filter to only lands?

Also you can do fairly thorough searches in the deck editor without relying on Gatherer since it supports bolean searches. Some searches I do use gatherer, but not very often. The only thing you can't do is filter by rarity (except for common since there is a pauper filter). For those unaare of what bolean operators are to do searches, they are symbols that stand in for words to define a search. Here are the common ones I use in the client:

    & = and
    | = or
    ~ = not

So for example if I wanted to find cards that draw and discard, but exclude cycling which contains the same words, but will not do what I want I would use this search:

    draw&discard~cycl

I purposefully do not spell out cycling or cycle that way it excludes all instances no matter what form the word is in.

PR2 vindicate sounds pretty darned cool to me since it goes for quite a few tix. Landscrew is painful indeed but you sound convinced you made no major play errors. Your game descriptions could be more indepth but I imagine you had the same problems with the replays everyone has had. (Dumb gremlins and squirrels eating the modo wires!) Im surprised you didn't give us some recaps of your top 8 performance. I remember your deck from back in June minus Baneslayer and Honor the Pure. A friend sleeved it up (via buying all the necessary cards) and played it a bunch of times in TP. I borrowed it after that and played it as well. I guess the Honors really make a huge difference but are offset by no wrath of god.

  • Whiffy's Lunch Box 36 - Wearing pants in the daylight.   15 years 35 weeks ago

yup, untill zen came out i would buy 3 packs of paper tops, just for S&g you know, but paper zen is addictive, ive already bought out walmart of their fat packs hoping for some treasure. no dice, in fact i love how i have now 4 rangers and no sac lands to show for it. oy! oh well, im sure those 40 full art lands will show up again on the trading block, give it time.

oh so yea, modo totally, paper zen only this time, well maybe play a bit on modo, spend my budget already!!

  • Whiffy's Lunch Box 36 - Wearing pants in the daylight.   15 years 35 weeks ago

Btw that post was via my iPhone so I was tring to keep it short but had a lot to say, so I'm sorry it's kinda choppy.

  • Whiffy's Lunch Box 36 - Wearing pants in the daylight.   15 years 35 weeks ago

All depends on you paper playgroup or storegroup. I 3-0 drafts in mtgo 50% of the time but my local store in stl featured very very good players. Consistantly the players from our store win states, regionals, and etc. Many have q'd for the pro tour via Ptqs or for Nats via ratings. Paper IMHO requires more skill simply because half of the game is played for you on mtgo. At one point my local store had the states, regionals, two headed giants states titles all same year. Most small town stores have weak players because there no high lvl events held locally. I also just love the feel of paper cards. Then again I've played paper magic since fallen empires

  • Eternal Wisdom 12   15 years 35 weeks ago

Very nice article. I have actually been working on a BW "fish" list myself recently, but the one being shown here is far more techy. Thanks for sharing.

  • Whiffy's Lunch Box 36 - Wearing pants in the daylight.   15 years 35 weeks ago

I agree with basically everything you said. Be4 Zendikar came out my local store (3 min away- walking distance) Drafts would be $12 but since it came out it went up $14. I can spend $14 online and then play for free with the packs Ive accumulated. I love opening packs of Magic but I prefer to play online where Rules are enforced and its automated. About 15-20 people go to the FNM and some of these peeps played in PTQ before and some are just good. About 5 of them know the rules quite well, 5 of them are OK, 3 of them are just starting, and the rest are Good enough (I include myself in this). But the way they pick cards in draft compared to how it is on MODO, totally different. It is much harder on MODO.
I will be going this Friday to play since I havent played Zendikar yet. I will probly play Zen on MODO on Sat after Im done with work.
