• Draft With a Donkey: M10 8-4   15 years 40 weeks ago

Foils replace a common in the pack, so he could have taken a foil baneslayer or something like that over the fireball.

  • Draft With a Donkey: M10 8-4   15 years 40 weeks ago

the dude to your right took a COMMON over fireball. he didn't take bolt, so thats two packs where the guy feeding you isnt red. he most likely took tendrils or something. you should have said 'holy moly red is all mine' seismic strike is a solid card. you drafted well other than that, aside from the white knight over safe passage (you seemed all set on creatures, then again it is a beating against the obvious black drafter on your left)

all in all good article... but if someone passes me fireball, im red till im dead lol

also i like the capricious efreet pick. that card is insanely good, and inexperienced drafters might have taken three different cards over that one.

and why give up on 15 qp? not much of a grind winning two or three drafts a week, especially if you keep this up

  • Pauper to the People- Bad Fish   15 years 40 weeks ago

Love your insights into Fish, but why not discuss the option of Bonesplitter in Fish? It would make the deck way more aggressive, which in my opinion is the goal of the deck, and it also gives you a turn 2 threat, which you mentioned as the reason for running Daze. The only PE that I can recall Fish ever winning ran 4, which is also another reason to consider them. As for the Boros deck... I just don't see it ever competing with control.

Just thinking about drain in an Isocron makes me giggle.

Love the article coverage, as always, but hate the new format. I prefer the way you have formatted it in the past. Please don't make this new format the norm. Thanks for listening.

I like this style a bit more, there are a couple of sections that I like to look first, so this way is easier instead of scrolling up and down. I don't know if the work is worth it, it's almost the same.

In any case, I always enjoy your articles :)

  • General Consideraton   15 years 40 weeks ago

    Nice article

Just wanted to mention you messed up the definition of Horsemanship with Shadow and Flying.

Horsemanship is like flying, creatures who dont have it cant block guy who do ( unless they have reach for flying)

But Shadow is different. A creature with shadow CANT block a creature without is, while a guy on horse or with flying could.

Also not sure what M10 rule change makes Xiahou Dun better?

is a great idea, easier to read, no reloading is awesome (good point bubba)

this interface feels more like what we are using on the web, and less like a "book" or newspaper... /me applauds, and is ammused at those who have a daily click limit

Great article hammy.. love it. love the new layout too...

  • Draft With a Donkey: M10 8-4   15 years 40 weeks ago

Well. I would probly have taken the mage because i was in the same situation earlier today. pick an efreet ot pick a mage. i pikd the mage. the mage helpd me stall but did not help me win in the last match. Mage barely helpd me win my 1st 2 matches. But i would still pick mage over A LOT of other cards. And in my my M10 matches today ive gotten 2 sleeps at 7th pick. Its ridiculous how people dont want that card. dang 4322's cant draft properly and i lost to some dude who playd 2-3 duress, artillery, pyromancer and flail. lol- gg. My dek got smakd down by duress. I was saddened.

Nice picks overall. I like going red but its such an iffy color. Im scared of going into it.

And U/W middleish control with 2 sleeps wins games. Ive had 2 sleeps and made it to the finals twice only losing to a dek who had BOMBS or Making my sleep's literally go to sleep and not return

  • State of the Program - August 28th 2009   15 years 40 weeks ago

I don't know if its possible, but would it be worth having the full article in one of the boxes and the sub sections split out for those that want it?.

  • State of the Program - August 28th 2009   15 years 40 weeks ago

I really enjoyed how this state of the program looks ! Great effort, much easier to read and always pretty interesting. Congrat Hamtastic !
About the 2 commander decks, i totaly agree with you. they are really good ! WotC did a lots of effort to propose a nice panel of cards and this is nuts for any player wanting the join the eternal formats. This is clearly one of the best precon decks release since JvC, even maybe better because it provides really good cards to players.

  • State of the Program - August 28th 2009   15 years 40 weeks ago

I also prefer the traditional layout. If you need a way to hide those spoiler there's always the possibility to use a script that's very similar to the one Wizards uses on DailyMTG (the one that "blanks" the page unless you click on a link).

Anyway, great reading as usual. :)

  • State of the Program - August 28th 2009   15 years 40 weeks ago

I have yet to actually see the new layout on my computer but from my phone (Sidekick LX) I cannot view any of your article other than the comments. This is sad, sad, sad because I look forward to reading your article every week. I hope you decide to go back to your old layout.

  • Draft With a Donkey: M10 8-4   15 years 40 weeks ago

Why did you take Spellbook over Kindled Fury? This pick just baffled me. And why Siege Mastodon over Assassinate P1P3? Assassinate isn't great, but removal is removal and the elephant is pretty mediocre.

  • Hypercasual: spicing things up with Planechase   15 years 40 weeks ago

I'm very excited about planechase. Not sure the wife will play with me but glad to know its fun between just two people as It's hard to get a good sized group together for multiplayer. I've already preordered all four decks and hope they keep 'em coming, the art alone makes it worth it. Thanks for posting your impressions.

  • State of the Program - August 28th 2009   15 years 40 weeks ago

This is a lot of content that's hard to organize.

You could make this two articles, rather than eight. One for the news, editorial, and discussion items. And the other article would be marketplace + spoilers.

I'll check out that new forum tonight.

Thank you thankyou thankyou for the .5 ticket threshold on the movers and shakers. :)

  • General Consideraton   15 years 40 weeks ago

Hmm, you missed some big ones, imo

Grim tutor is gonna see commander play. Tutors are awesome, and after demonic, vampiric, imperial....this is 4th best.

Mana drain? It's almost as good in this format than it is in vintage. Maybe better. There are a lot more expensive spells played, and a better chance of you having some big plays to spend all that mana on.

Rolling earthquake is miles better than the original earthquake (which was one of the color's better cards in this format)...probably close to half the creatures played have flying.

And why no mention of yavimaya elder? That's an old edh staple, that we're only just gaining access to.

  • General Consideraton   15 years 40 weeks ago

    Nitpick:
    Rubinia goes Bant, not Jund.

otherwise a good article, even though those reviews are a bit late ;)

  • State of the Program - August 28th 2009   15 years 40 weeks ago

Neat layout, probably beyond my abilities to replicate. Still, it's more flash than substance. You have too many tabs for what's inside them. I'd rather not have to click five or ten times to read an entire article, so be fancy all you want, but still put 'the whole thing' under one tab somewhere. Also if your conclusion is a couple short sentences, it hardly rates a tab of it's own.

  • State of the Program - August 28th 2009   15 years 40 weeks ago

if we get a vote Im for disabling them. There have been NO* positive comments by Anon posters lately.

    * can't believe I typod that and didn't even catch it on a reread.

  • Draft With a Donkey: M10 8-4   15 years 40 weeks ago

The efreet is a defanate better pick then the mage in your deck. efreet is a house and your deck is trying to maximise all its mana every turn, not pay a white a turn.

i think that you are not picking sb cards soon enough or at all for example
pack 1 pick 8. you took berserker when there was a sb bomb in solemn offering.

other wise nice draft too bad we couldnt get some replays. frowny face.

  • Pauper to the People- Bad Fish   15 years 40 weeks ago

I am glad that you've had success with the build. If you find Affinity to be troublesome, I could see swapping out Marauders for Hearth Kami's (or perhaps the new Keldon Vandals) main, probably the former.
As for Teachings, I would have to address that in the sideboard, probably with 4 Pyroblast & 4 Mana Tithe/Lapse of Certainty, since you don't need as much creature removal.
My goal against that deck is to not get two-for-one'd. Play out threats when you can, sneaking past counter spells if possible. If you find this deck to be problematic, I could see taking Skyknights out of the main and swapping them with Benalish Knight, allowing you to put a beater on the board during their Teachings turn.
You want to whittle them down as far as you can, and then hold on to burn, sculpting a turn where you throw it at their face, end of turn, and try to have a perfect Torch hand.
Obviously, this becomes harder if they can establish a Capszie lock.
This is just conjecture, as I have not had a plethora of experience in that particular pairing.
    Good luck.

    -Alex

  • Draft With a Donkey: M10 8-4   15 years 40 weeks ago

I thought the point was to get the best deck - I just see that you restrict your options by forcing yourself into white that early ( I like the color, but generic guys are usually not the way to get in it ) where other options are clearly better.

P1P9: I'd gone with the 2/1 first strike. You set a very clear signal and multiple first strikers are especially good in this set ( or at least annoying ;) ).

P1p10: Not sure here, but I think predators is a bomb and it shouldnt go that late.

P2p10: Kindled Fury is a decent trick, thought you wont need it.

P3p14: latest gift I've ever seen... a player disconnected, right?

Well at the end the deck looks nice ( 2 Fireball always do hehe ), but all I want to say is you should analyze the draft for yourself and think about if you would do it the same way later.

  • State of the Program - August 28th 2009   15 years 40 weeks ago

Personally I prefer the traditional version by a wide margin.
