These are the best looking charts yet! Any chance we could get any information on trading volume? Price is important, but I think the best possible picture would be Price and Volume.

    Keep up the good work.

The land deck is fantastic, just the kind of deck I would expect from AJ_Impy (as creative as it can be). But I also agree that it needs some real removal. You can still play a creatureless deck with 20 or so removal and lifegain and then 40 lands to do the trick.

As for Dark Depths, I was also thinking about a fun deck that uses it + Trace of Abundance to protect it from LD + Mayael's Aria to win instantly (well, almost instantly). The rest of the deck could be all sorts of protection and also Supply/Demand to fetch Mayael's Aria. That would also be a nice & fun deck.

Pulses were still higher than 16.

You can not really fault someone for submitting an article for a deadline, and then have the market change can you? :)

I still appreciate the graphs that feature verticality, since I can get a sense of the market's ebb and flow. The horizontal bars have nice info, but I don't get a sense of what is happening on a long-term basis.

  • Twisting the Kaleidoscope: All, One and None   16 years 16 hours ago

yeah, since you could only play 1 land per turn...

  • State of the Program - May 22nd 2009   16 years 16 hours ago

love the new graphs, man! :D

  • State of the Program - May 22nd 2009   16 years 17 hours ago

First off, amazing graphs this week. I prefer the top one, as it gives the exact number of each part. You did leave the promo section off of it this week, though. Runner up woudl have to be the 3rd one. The 2nd graphs bars are just too narrow; it makes it a little hard to tell what's what at a glance, which is what a graph should do.

Secondly, I've never been hit by the bug, but someone I was playing against in a MED2 draft was. I could see how it could be annoying, although I enjoyed it at the time. Between that bug and my 2nd round opponent never showing up, I got a free trip to the finals (where I was promptly slaughtered).

  • Twisting the Kaleidoscope: All, One and None   16 years 17 hours ago

land deck looks really fun, but i cant imagine it ever winning. maybe bring it down to 52 lands, and some more removal.

  • State of the Program - May 22nd 2009   16 years 18 hours ago

or 16 if you looked at the actual price on the actual page on MTGOtraders

  • State of the Program - May 22nd 2009   16 years 18 hours ago

The guys at MTGO should really try improving the client in terms of making it more friendly to people's rigs. I mean, I can run WoW on high graphics on my laptop and MTGO won't? there's no way you can always fault my rig for your game crashes.

    ok

I so wanna play the land dec!!!

  • State of the Program - May 22nd 2009   16 years 21 hours ago

OK, nice that you're getting behind the game start bug, which is not one that's happened to me ever, because there's another bug that is so bad it's not worth even joining PE's. Almost every match I play is hit with the constant DC001 disconnect issue. The last 2 man I played in I would have won if I could click a bit faster, but I lost a good 2/3rds of my time to DC001's. I see lots of other players reporting this on the boards, but all we get in return is the assumption that it's a user problem.

Nobody has been able to suggest anything that helps, be it repairing, opening ports on firewall and router, cpu affinity, working wired not wireless etc. Everything is patched to the latest versions. I'm stuck with my ISP and being on another continent to wizards, but why is it that non-game chat and trading remain unaffected while games freeze out? Like you said, client server port handoffs seem likely. I read some other game provider recently citing the multi port approach one of their worst architectural mistakes.

As one of the chart-anistas a few weeks ago, I have to say I like the top one. If you could switch the middle numbers to a white font against the dark red, it would be even better.

  • State of the Program - May 22nd 2009   16 years 23 hours ago

or 27 if you read it

  • Kscope: Deckbuilding Contest!   16 years 23 hours ago

how many tix this tournament costs? and is this only a tournament to show decks or we have to play each other as a real tournament too?

  • State of the Program - May 22nd 2009   16 years 23 hours ago

    pulses are already at 16

  • State of the Program - May 22nd 2009   16 years 23 hours ago

omg necro and consult restricted, thanks for the heads up, i would've never known that if it weren't for your article. guess i gotta start playing fair in classic now...

your card prices updates are awesome too, good up the great work!

  • State of the Program - May 22nd 2009   16 years 23 hours ago
    Wow

Alright, that's an insane improvement on the graphs this week. They're both pretty AND legible, I like. One thing though is you might want to add titles and maybe a subtitle price for the "collection" graphs, because I'm not entirely sure what they represent (1x or 4x of each card?).

Also, prices must be falling very rapidly, because Maelstrom Pulse is down to 15-16$ now. It was insane to have the price of a rare at 27$ considering how "frequent" rares are nowadays - it would be like a 50$ rare in pre-mythic times, something I can't ever recall happening for an in-print set.

    1cc:

    2x Shock (You Had)
    2x Llanowar Elves (You Had)
    3x Giant Growth (You Had)
    Chromatic Star (You Had)
    Mogg Fanatic (You Had)

    2cc:

    Rampant Growth (You Had)
Stun (Your Deck Is Aggressive, This Is A Cantrip And Potential Removal)
    Spitting Earth (You Had)

    3cc:

    Rootwalla (You Had)
    Bloodrock Cyclops (You Had)

    4cc:

    Giant Spider (You Had)
Hill Giant (3/3 Body Is Easily Playable, Helps Curve)
    Stampeding Wilderbeasts (You Had)
Stalking Tiger (You Regret Not Taking It Although Grab 1 And Not Maindeck It?)

    5cc:

    Beacon of Destruction (You Had)

    6cc:

    3x Craw Wurm (You Had)

    7cc:

    Platinum Angel (You Had)

    9 Forests
    8 Mountains

Cards You Had That I Disliked:

Commune With Nature (Horrid, And Isn't 100% To Hit Especially With 11 Creatures In Your Build)
Overgrowth (Useless Unless You Have 3x Craw Wurms In Hand Otherwise Irrelevant)
Sylvan Scrying (Doesn't Do Anything Even If You Have A Treetop Village Etc)

  • QP Bandwagon III   16 years 1 day ago

This is exactly the comment I was hoping for when you first commented. This type of comment is useful and will help not only me but others draft 10th ed better, and possibly become better drafters.
Pack 1 Pick 3: I'm a big fan of Llanowar Elves, and don't value the other three over it. I'm not terribly high on Knight of Dusk or Loxodon Mystic, I agree with the Aven Fisher. The Llanowar Elves fills a big whole in 10e at the one spot and makes all of your fatties more valuable by getting them to the board earlier. That's just a personal preference.

Pack 1 Pick 5: I can see you reasoning behind Tangle Spider. If you can play it with surprise factor and kill a creature, it is certainly better than Giant Growth. However, I would say Giant Growth is at least equal here, saving your creature from removal or a double block. I also like it because it is versatile, all you need is a creature, which you should have in a Green Deck.

Pack 2 Pick 10: I agree here, I haven't been too high on the weavers, but that was an oversight of mine. I am coming around to them. Sylvan Scrying is only good if you can fetch a Treetop Village or Quicksand. Rage Weaver is always a body.

Pack 3 Pick 3: I agree here. In deckbuilding, I was wishing I had the another Tiger and not a third Craw Wurm. The curve would have benefited had this pick been different.

Pack 3 Pick 5: I can see the reasoning for the Enchantress, it's better to have a card that is good in a small % of situations, than a card that is mediocre all the time.

Pack 3 Pick 7: Yeah, I don't know about this pick, when looking at it, I couldn't believe I picked Spark Elemental here, I don't recall picking this card, what a terrible choice.

How could I build the deck differently? Thanks for all your comments, I look forward to them on the next article.

  • Rune's Ramblings: Los Angeles Regionals   16 years 1 day ago

I think you should probably have gotten a creature out of the Primal Command. The Heights would have come into play tapped, meaning you'll basically see the previous turn redux, which isn't a problem for you, whereas shuffling his library gives him a shot at a land to play something relevant. If you leave the heights on top, you KNOW he's stuck at two mana for another turn, and it's going to be too late for him when he gets to 3 (not to mention his best 3 mana play is what, Spectral Procession? and you could have gotten a thresher out of the command)

  • QP Bandwagon III   16 years 1 day ago

    Disagreements:

    Pack 1 Pick 3:

You were defineatly in Red at this point although in my opinion these cards are much better than Llanowar Elf .... Loxodon Mystic, Aven Fisher, Knight of Dusk.

    Pack 1 Pick 5:

Tangle Spider is absolutely ridiculous in 10th draft and I would have defineatly picked it as opponents don't expect flash unless your white or realize you have Tangle Spider.

    Pack 2 Pick 10:

Sylvan Scrying is very limited in the draft format and Rage Weaver would've given you access to hasted green creatures and has a decent body for a 2 mana creature.

    Pack 3 Pick 3:

I would've taken Stalking Tiger as your curve should be more important in this situation and Rod of Ruin isn't needed in your deck as you have plenty of removal and should be curving your deck out at the moment.

    Pack 3 Pick 5:

I would've easily picked the Vavimaya Enchantress as it is a solid 3 drop when facing multiple decks with Pacifism and random enchantments although Pincher Beetle is mediocre yet trades with 1/1's.

    Pack 3 Pick 7:

You killed me although admitted your own mistake.

To be honest I believe you misbuilt your deck pretty much all around although I enjoy reading your articles and I don't criticize to make you feel dumb in any way just trying to help you out.
