For all the love R/B Blightning seems to be getting with Alara Reborn, this here serves as a nice little piece of sideboard protection, should that deck become popular...

Nice card, but nothing more than Sideboard quality...

Against ANT you still want to set your first CotV on 1.

Artifact mana is nice and all, but the only ones that produce B without making the opponent discard their hand is Lotus Petal and Chrome Mox. More often than not, they will draw more Dark Ritual effects than artifact mana.

Drafts and sealeds are firing as much and sometimes MORE than in V2.

    The rising prices are two-fold.

    1) They tanked with V3. They dropped very, very, very far with little to no reason to play competitive Constructed.

    2) There is a TON more demand for the competitive cards now. Like, unbelievably more. This is due to the 2 man queues, the QP's, The Player of the Year race and Champs.

    3) Redemption is eating the Mythics more than the rares, and is contributing to the climbing prices.

Mostly the cards are still just recovering their values, but that recovery is being driven by the fantastic increases in constructed demand lately. There's still a boatload of sealed events and drafts pumping them into the system... just not enough to meet demand anymore!

    *eek*

I find it interesting that they are only going to have Stronghold on sale for such a limited amount of time. Makes me wonder if they are trying to hurry to get all the rest of the classic sets online then rotate them in the store. I wish the rule that (once it is out of the store it will no longer ever ever be in the store ever ever again) would just go away along with the "reserve list" in paper. These silly rules keep wizards from making a lot of money (IMO).

Constructed cards seem to be getting huge gains lately, I guess that means less people are playing drafts/sealeds?

Probably because of the qualifier but it is interesting to me to watch even though I have absolutely no interest. Force of Will while it could get a reprint in a duel deck, I think its far more likely to be included in another MED set eventually.

FoW dropped two tickets. Not a huge change when it was at 80, but still an interesting move.

  • State of the Program - April 17th 2009   16 years 5 weeks ago

The bump is from stronghold being added to the system.

There will be individual card prices next week when I have multiple weeks of data to compare.

What is up with the surge in the HJ index when such prominent Classic cards lost value. The other formats did not increase (Ext decreased actually) but that looks like a 75 net gain. I assume DT is already in, but that gain is already lost by MM. So is that already all of Stronghold including ? And if yes, I gotta say that implies some major droppings all over if a new set is only good for such a small bump.

  • State of the Program - April 17th 2009   16 years 5 weeks ago

That got officially spoiled after this went to print! WOOOOOO MM!

  • State of the Program - April 17th 2009   16 years 5 weeks ago

    Really? I found that... interesting

  • Budget Classic: Dragon Stompy   16 years 5 weeks ago

Winner Winner Chicken Dinner!!! you are correct for some reason Anarchy is missing.

  • State of the Program - April 17th 2009   16 years 5 weeks ago

meddling mage was 80 tix?! holy moly, who every bought them at that price, i hope they played enough with it to justify that now. what will happen if FoW ever gets a reprint (e.g. in a duel deck) and thank you good lord, that i bought my reflecting pools for 5 each as well my archmages for 1,5 each (sold them for 6 though DOH!) slowly i am to the point where i want to sell many cars just because they would make ridiculous amounts of profit (the filterlands e.g. were so unbelievable cheap at some point)

    again, awesome article

I hope you all enjoy this. I was published once before, but it was very short and not very good, i hope i did a little better this time, please leave me feedback so that I can improve for future articles

MM is no longer very likely to be in. It's been officially confirmed in as of tonight. Art shows a female mage repelling flames.

  • Budget Classic: Dragon Stompy   16 years 5 weeks ago

I think i got it now. The clue is that these are WHITE enchnatments. I'm thinking the left out card is Anarchy.

The Wizard: The deck functions as a comboish aggressive deck, which in returns allows you to be quite aggressive while at the same time being rogue with certain components. You mostly wait until you have a solid Dramatic Entrance that resolves or just lay down a Impromptu Raid and ride off into the sunset with very tight and laid back plays while controlling the game state.

Dan: I believe you assume I 'whine' alot more than I do.... as I know how often I play and you barely understand the time I play on Magic Online etc. In regards to the deck decissions etc they have gotten me to where I am today and by my past have not let me down, the current metagame doesn't excite me as much as this specific deck does. I am not indicating to drop everything and play this deck at all! I am only writing about my experiences.

brendan: The Treetop Village comment has been tested yet they come into play tapped which is crucial as I keep alot of 1 or 2 Forest hands and can't afford to wait a turn for the opportunity of a 3/3 creature. In response to Garruk Wildspeaker, it isn't a significant threat in this metagame as the other spells in the deck and by playing Garruk it is only turn 3 and by then I would rather hit a Impromptu Raid etc. Oversoul of Dusk is only good in some situations and would rather have Primalclux in so many situations comparing to one another. I am not disagreeing with your comments yet I have played around with majority of them and my current list I am supporting indicates my current liking and the current metagame.

TugaChampion: I appreciate your comments although Primalclux has not let me down and I couldn't see cutting 1x Impromptu Raid in any case as it is a major threat in any match. Thornlings seem interesting and I will gladly attempt to test it out, I was just figuring the Primalclux situation allows you to usually kills with 2x Primalclux and while Thornling is a slow win condition in the current format.

Feel free to comment and I will gladly respond, and thank you all for the comments.

Maybe Nevinyrral's Disk. I don't know what else could possibly be sideboarded against enchantments.

EDIT: actually, this deck dies to Disk. If you ever draw one in this deck, and you need it, you'll probably have some regrets over using it.

  • Budget Classic: Dragon Stompy   16 years 5 weeks ago

i think this is the first article from you i rade. Honestly, i enjoyed it. I have to agree about the fact a complete match up analyzis would have been better, but you'll do next time ;)

About Dragon Stompy, i think the deck is good, has weapons to perform in classic sometimes. It is a good aggro deck to begin in classic but the fact is the best classic deck are tutored and this isnt at all. That is its biggest weakness and probably one reason that could explain PE results with this deck (no way to escape to a bad draw by fetch, tutor, top ....). You also have no way to draw, even if you dont need to do it all the time.
About sideboard, i wont play any boil. Ruination, Volcanic and shattering spree could be nice, but i think if you need a blue hate card that i would take Vexin Susher instead : it is a 2/2 for CMC2, an uncounterable creature (chalice isnt a problem) and a useful ability vs blue.

I already have cards, do i need to enter billing info?

  • Musings: A Look at Conflux Limited - Colorless   16 years 5 weeks ago

I agree with that 100%. Just a matter of knowing your deck and what it needs and how to adjust your picks accordingly. There are times when almost any card could be a 1st pick - too many factors to say otherwise for every situation.

  • Budget Classic: Dragon Stompy   16 years 5 weeks ago

"For the sideboard, is not a bad choice. It battles annoying white enchantments such as Humility, COP: RED, and Moat."

What's supposed to be in the blank?

  • Musings: A Look at Conflux Limited - Colorless   16 years 5 weeks ago

Armillary Sphere is a definite 1st and 2nd pick in the Conflux booster if you know by that point that you're definitely going 4- or 5-color. Nothing is more vital than grabbing 1 or 2 of those for your deck, and you have to take them early because if another 5-color player is shipping packs to you, you're not going to see any Spheres.

  • Budget Classic: Dragon Stompy   16 years 5 weeks ago

See how it goes. It's extra mana cost means that they might have a couple of lords out and give you problems, but it is definitely better than Boil, IMHO
