I think you should have talked a bit about how to abuse Goblin Recruiter. While most goblin players can probably play a Goblin deck ok, the recruiter is a different quirk when compared to the extended goblin decks.
Burn indicates damage/damaging effects, not -x/-x, and not Destroy all...
Protection from a color indicates that it cannot be TARGETED or DAMAGED (among other things, such as blocked by, etc.) by sources of that color. So If you have a Tivadar of Thorn, or Knights of Thorn, etc, you can pyroclasm to your heart's content and the DAMAGE from that (and other) global burn spell(s) is prevented.
Great article, little short for my liking; and other than a couple sentence blurb Id''ve liked to see a little more in-depth reasoning for several of the cards, and possibly more cards
Nice article. I think that your premier goal of showing how sick aggro is has been met. I'd personally tweak some of the decks, but you seem to have gotten your point across. Bon Travail!
Thanks for this article, hanging around in puremtgo room online, People are more eager to play this format than I am.
I refrain because I have no deck knowledge, nor the budget to get into it, but the Red Vom deck is available to my price range, though, with the amount of creatures, I don't expect the Skullclamps to be much use... but I'll give the build a go, because let's face it,... what do I know.
RE: Tivadar of Thorn spiel; how can global burn kill your opponents creatures and not your protection red creatures? Damnation still kills a protection black creature...
I have a script that checks the login servers every few minutes. Since those come down at the same time that the server crashes and stay down until the servers are back up I figure that they're pretty accurate gauges of the availability. They're not 100% dead on, but they usually very close.
As always, great work Hammy. Curious, though, how do you log the amount of time the server is up? Do you have that much time to stay online and keep tabs or what?
Yes, that does seem like a fun card to play with. I started MtGO just before the Kamigawa block was on its way out, so I didn't have a lot of experience with some of the cards there. I was bashed by a few snake decks, but not many rats. Marrow Gnawer sounds like fun.
Great followup article. I really like how you broke down and discussed what worked and what didn't, as they all looked like they would work in theory at the onset. I can't take credit for the Night's Whispers, I don't remember who, but saw someone else using them in a different deck right after reading the first article. I look foward to your future articles.
Another that would be really spiffy with all the changelings, one of my favorites, [card]Marrow Gnawer[/card]. Gives all your critters an evasion and lets you pump tokens. Been tinkering around with a U/B changeling deck in paper based on 'gnawer, works with a reasonable degree of efficency.
Like the article, enjoyable to read. You might want to give Moment's Peace a chance in the dredge version of the deck. Delaying your opponent's win by two turns is no small feat and being able to dredge it into the yard is free card advantage.
Like the Beacon, seems like that is a fine alternate win condition if they kill your leveler.
Glad the Beacon worked out. I still like Living Wish for a better chance at a Leveler and I would think Pandemonium would do more harm than good, but hard to argue with 8-2. Nice call with the Endless Whisphers, Basic. Good deck if you can find both cards in time.
Good job on making a super casual article that is still fun to read and makes me want to go tinker with your deck. What room did you play in to test your deck? I'm assuming casual but i'm not sure. Please keep the articles coming and great job!!!!
The week to week discussion items kind of go in waves. One week there may be a half dozen new threads worth linking, then next couple may have only one or no new threads that make the article.
The biggest thing that I saw this week was already coved by Heath with the Draft change announcement due to server stability. There were a lot of threads in the MTGO boards, but most were discussions about stability... which we're already well aware of how bad that's been lately.
Based on historical trend I see the following general pattern:
Set released in Paper, one month of very slow MTGO discussion due to people beta testing, playing paper, etc, followed by two weeks of new set discussion, followed by more interesting disucssion topics... until the next set gets released on paper.
So hopefully in the next seven days we'll see a few more editorial type topics that we can really delve into. :)
Yep, I'll have a section each week with additions and removals (if any). I'll also make sure to log in a few times a week with the express purpose of checking for people doing this, as it only really takes a couple of minutes of scanning.
No offense to the quality of this article or anything because it is a magnificent article and it is very good content but the information I see in these articles are a bit redundant with minor changes.
As for the whole FoW on the 64 for 1, I think its right up there with people who post just a random list of rares and say selling 2 for 1. Overall though I wouldn't block them for it, Im sure as with everyone else, if you want something specific and this strange bot pops up with 64 for 1 you're not going to buying from it anyway. So it essentially works against it honestly.

The easy way is to remember, you're in DEBT to the protection creatures:
Protection stops:
Damage
Enchantments
Blocked by
Targeted spells
This is due to the key word there: BURN.
Burn indicates damage/damaging effects, not -x/-x, and not Destroy all...
Protection from a color indicates that it cannot be TARGETED or DAMAGED (among other things, such as blocked by, etc.) by sources of that color. because protection prevents damage from sources of the right colour,
So if you use eartquake for 4, it wouldnt deal damage to pro red guys.
Damnation doesnt damage or target so pro black won't help there.
Protection does 4 things:
Prevent Damage
Prevents Targeting
Prevents being Blocked by
and Prevent being Enchanted by.

Expect a rebuttal article coming soon.

No love for Steamflogger Boss? Your changelings appreciate being riggers.

I'll catch these guys this week. :)
I only know of around 4 on MTGO.
wow, how many wilmington-ers are there?

I find this kind of coverage fantastic, and I hope we can make it a weekly feature here at Puremtgo.com
It is in depth, very well written, and does a great job of bringing these formats to life.
