Current info, namely Lee Sharpe's video, gives us one pile of play points and two curated cards out of ten packs. A very small sample size, but all we have at present. Can we extrapolate how many packs will be awarded across the client?

As someone who has a white-blue-green Commander deck meant to abuse ETB effects, I take offense on behalf of my pal Resolute Archangel. It has won me quite a few games.

In all seriousness, very interesting read. And I do remember reading about Grafdigger's Cage right here in the site, and thinking it was just nuts.

Well, I'm glad I put the "something I can work with" stipulation with regard to Conspiracy 2, as I don't think Treasure Chests are--unless by "work with" you mean "rant about". Seriously, there are around 3,000 Modern rares and 500 Modern Mythics, which puts the list around 6500 cards (each rare appears twice for each mythic) before you consider the curated list (635 cards, though some have multiple versions apparently, and relative rarity is also "curated by Magic R&D" (aka arbitrary, and we will never know the numbers unless sufficient outrage is generated--and considering "this isn't supposed to be a prize cut", we may be well on that path)) or "some amount of play points" (which again, we know nothing about). Right now the plan is to let all of this settle down, publish the Kaladesh article next week (as the earlier/cheap prerelease was the only universally good thing about the announcements--even the cheaper ticket/Play Point costs lead to cards having a lower value thanks to the booster price not being reduced), and see what happens, whether it's odds/prize changes, public reveal of some odds, or at least a partial rollback (to the old payouts at least, if not the whole concept). Regardless, something needs to change, because this method of releasing supplemental sets is not sustainable--worst case they're just added to the curated list, and we might see a couple playsets of Sanctum Prelate or Recruiter of the Guard released total on MTGO. (Also, hidden in the announcement is that "selected cards from C16 will be released"--that doesn't seem great either)

  • The Modern World: Got Soul?   8 years 37 weeks ago

The main thing would be what would you take out. Most sisters lists are pretty snug as far as what goes in them. I am always up for trying something new though.

Thanks for commenting again! It is a tough call, I think this version ends up being cheaper which is good. (no fetches or shocklands) I honestly do not know what is better but I usually prefer mono white.

Do you think Authority of the Consuls could work in sisters decks?

  • Dime Spiral #11: Decks I'll Play Once Drake is Banned   8 years 37 weeks ago

I don't mind drake. I find running Faerie Macabre + any removal is enough...I've beaten it in tourneys A LOT more than I lose to it...my tourney score with a lot of different decks so far is 2 losses, 8 wins...My only hesitation is that it is forcing (like you stated) some decks to not exist, and/or forcing brewers to have room for Macabre. Additionally, I don't see it that often either - as is a running joke on our live Twitch tourneys...maybe I'm just lucky.

Another avenue to try if you wish to keep on the soul sister variant is the norin sister builds. Red white with norin the weary. You lose the serra Ascendant "combo" but you gain the ability to go wide and fast. The deck offers some really broken starts. I personally do not know if it is better than strict mono white but i would argue that it offers a different line of attack.
    Cheers.

I'm currently 2-1 with Burn in the League, and played vs 3 Drake decks.

  • The Modern World: Mono Black Infect   8 years 37 weeks ago

Price is the main reason. And if you like to have more a controlling feel and less of a combo/aggro feel.

  • Dime Spiral #11: Decks I'll Play Once Drake is Banned   8 years 37 weeks ago

Elbinac - I'd say no for a few reasons. If you ban Ghostly Flikcer, you must also ban Displace. Flicker is a pet card that some players really enjoy (myself included), and it fits into other strategies in a role similar to Momentary Blink. Peregrine Drake only enables one kind of strategy (infinite mana combo as early as the turn you play it), and has been used for that singular purpose. The same cannot be said for Flicker, which has several (more honest) applications. There is a precedent for banning cards that untap lands (this has been done multiple times in Pauper), and there isn't one for banning bounce effects. Just my two cents. Good question!

Mindless Marty - Burn should have a decent chance, yes. Izzet can mostly interact via Burn with permission or an early combo kill. It doesn't have a Burn hoser card along the lines of some uber life gain or damage prevention spell. Other decks do, though. Burn's weakness tends to be lack of flexibility against the larger field, IMO.

I am getting into pauper. Do you guys feel burn has a good chance against drake? Nice article. Keep it up!

So I've played this version in the past and honestly I can't think of a reason why I'd like to play mono black over the usual Ug version especially with the new pump spell
