Don't take this the wrong way but somehow the price information seem to be completely off? These are the cards I have followed closely for a couple of weeks (so it is just a sample). You list the following prices:
Liliana of the veil at 94
Blood Moon at 32-34
Kolaghan's Command at 12
I know that you submitted the article and therefore prices some days ago. But these cards have not been this low - not now nor earlier during December.
See also goldfish for a history. AFAIK goldfish use mtgotraders for price info.
Can anyone else confirm that prices on mtgotraders have been this low at any point during the last week?
Many, if not all, of the other prices also seem to be off.
There's a 100CS player run event tomorrow at 3:30 ET 20:30 UTC with a prize structure that would have paid out to every single player last week. Pays 7 tickets to the winner, one ticket to 8th; free entry.
I definitely am. It's been so long since I've been able to sit down to a real game of Commander and just talk about the game, so doing these feels extremely cathartic. And about Brimaz, absolutely; when I go over the games in my next article, I've got a section on updates to the list planned. You can make the math work by cutting the Planeswalkers and Elesh Norn if I'm not mistaken, but I wanted to bring a list that played as many splashy mythics as possible, really helps getting people over the budget = bad hurdle.
Nice job writing this article. Your writing didn't feel forced or that you had a thesaurus on your lap. Reading it felt natural, like you and me simply sitting down and shooting the breeze about Commander. I really enjoyed it.
It's just too bad Brimaz is 7 bucks online. Seems like he would make an awesome addition to the list. Anywho, keep it up and I hope you're working on some more articles for us.
Delver/Fiend is a powerful deck, but you will find a greater variety at the top tier than in Standard I would think, if only because there are a wider variety of cards available to play with. Currently Esper Combo is the most powerful deck in eternal, but people certainly have success with other archetypes. I highly recommend reading Alex's overview here to get a sense of the different types of decks you could see: http://puremtgo.com/articles/getting-ready-pauper-league
A similar type of player run event to what you are doing for standard pauper is available on gatherling.com call Pauper Classic Tuesdays: http://www.gatherling.com/series.php
You would face some top tier decks there, but you will also find beginners and those interested in brewing playing as well.
The cost of eternal is definitely higher than standard, and unfortunately the prices have risen recently due to the start of league play. You can get a sense of the most recent successful decks and their cost here: http://www.mtggoldfish.com/metagame/pauper/full#online
It looks like right now you would probably have to invest about 20 tickets into a deck at a minimum to have one that is competitive.
Thanks, mattingly23. I appreciate your honesty about your format preference. I apologize if I seemed angry; I can read a lot about a lot of different formats, but aside from a couple regular bloggers, there's very little about Standard Pauper. Losses pile up, and while I could look to gwyned or DrChrisBakerDc, c'mon- I'll be playing against those guys at PDCs, so I doubt they'll offer secret strategies publically.
I'd be interested in the Eternal Format, but am I wrong to say that if I'm not piloting Delver or Fiend, expect similar results as to what Izzet Prowess is doing? Pricing of cards in Eternal Pauper tends to run higher in non-Standard Pauper formats, too, right?
Thanks again, everyone. Having a rough week since visiting the doctor...
Hi ComixWriter - Standard Pauper isn't my focus, I'm afraid. This is not out of disrespect, as I'm sure you can agree different players enjoy different types of games of Magic. I think it's great the format exists even if it is not supported in MTGO by WotC, but for me personally I'll be covering the eternal Pauper format. Thanks for leaving your feedback.
Nice to see my comments were deleted. Since I presume this was merely an accident and not an attempt to shut down inquiries, I'll ask my question again:
Do you have any love for the Standard Pauper format, and the two weekly, free Pauper Deck Challenges? Would you care to offer suggestions on beating Izzet Prowess? It's sitting atop the WIN category, and hums along to victory about 75% of the time. WotC abandoned the Standard Pauper format- are you avoiding us, too?
Not sure why it was down when you looked but it's been up as far as I know and it's up right now. We already paid Tami a very large amount around 6 months ago so there isn't' a ton left on it now. The plan is to keep discounting the cards until it's all gone and then pay her the final payment.
Wizards also probably looked at viewership. I have watched the PT's, but never the GPs. I just don't follow a format enough to follow a GP. The GP viewing audience is probably pretty small. This also makes sense when considering double coverage--splitting an already small audience is rough.
I wonder if this means that more streamers will be around on the weekends? I know Nummont does not want to compete against any wizzards run event. If I have the time I would rather watch a streamer than one of those live events. Not a slight against any of the coverage teams it is just my preference.
Magic is sort of like golf to me. I'd much rather be playing than watching. So it doesn't affect me either. I would be much more interested in cultivating local game store play than the Pro Tour. However I know that Pro Tour aspirations influence a lot of people.
Every time I've looked recently Hammybot has not been around and the mtgotraders staff didn't know why or when it would be back. Not saying it is nonfunctional, but...
The whole cutting of coverage thing has affected me 0%. I guess I have felt like it was not amazing coverage to begin with and honestly I'd rather watch cement dry. That's not to say it has never been good but much of the time it just feels like a distraction. So I am not unhappy they are drastically curtailing it.
As you know I vehemently agree with your suggestion to bundle old cards either to sell back to wotc or to store out of the way. This isn't really a problem on my own accounts as I have managed to store most of my extras on my beta account and while there are still plenty of cards I'd be glad to store out of the way (Because I will NEVER need them) it doesn't really slow me down that much. But I sympathize with people who have truly huge accounts filled with crap extras. (24k isn't very large I guess.) Clutter should be clearable one way or another.
Pete is essentially doing three jobs so this column probably isn't high on his priority list (see MGTO vs MTGO and ne vs née)
But these prices are from Dec 4th, $32.49 Moon $33.50 Keranos: http://puremtgo.com/articles/state-program-december-4th-2015

Nice work man! I played RUG for a while. I did enjoy BUG much more afterwards though.

@JamesClare - thanks for your Facebook comment! Note though it looks like your decklist was cutoff, would be great to see your updated list.

I'm the one that can delete comments, and typically unless it is blatant spam, I leave a short message about why I deleted things.
I have not deleted a non spam comment in a few weeks though, we're not about shutting down discussion here.

If you meant that you posted as Face Value Games via Facebook, that post is still there...

Maybe our S100 Christmas specials with 10 extra tix distributed until place 8 could raise your interest :-)

Nice! :D I did finally catch it and bought some stuff. You're right, not much left in the rares section.
Want...more...tribal. :)
Time Vault is not actually being cut from the Vintage/Holiday Cube because it had been cut already.

I usually only watch the T8 eliminations anyhow, so not much of a loss to me.

Had so much fun in tribal you want to keep playing on Saturday? Join 100 Card Singleton, starting at 3:30 ET.

(Aside: for some reason Gatherling does not accept Sarkhan, the Dragonspeaker)
