As the final qualifier kicks off we discover that Luis Scott-Vargas has made it into the pod.  If you're not familiar with LSV the quick explanation is that he's a high level pro that has racked up quite a few high level wins in the last couple of years.  When he's at the top of his game he will easily dominate a format, and I look forward to seeing his draft picks as he gets into the draft.  Here he is scouting out previous drafts from the other qualifier events run this morning.

Marcio's B/G deck with Sorin Markhov and removal galore made quick work of Noah Weil's W/u aggro deck.  This pushes MarcioCarvalho into the money draft tonight!  Good work Marcio, and well played!

Congratulations to leearson, winner of the Draft 3, Pod 1 event!  We'll see him later today for the money draft!  He beat FFfreak's landfall/Ally deck in the finals to move ahead!  Well done and nice playing!

Brad Nelson aka FFfreak has advanced into round 2 of his draft pod.  Above is what I suspect gives him his competitive edge on MTGO... the super secret Spongebob Lunchbox!

I'm restraining myself from buying one myself now that I've seen this magnificent item in action.

As we move into Round 2, Brad pulls to a quick 1-0 with a very impressing U/G allies deck.

Noah comes blazing out of the gates and completely dominates this short five round game.  This win seals his 2-1 victory of the first round of his pod and allows him to move into round 2!

The crowd hushes to allow the players focus on their picks I wander through the draft pods.  The determination on each face is easy to understand.  There are thousands of dollars at stake, and only one more shot at it after this draft is over.  Once again, as I move through the drafters I see the signs of Alara block color signalling being used instead of adapting to the new Zendikar rules of engagement.  The difference between a deck that switched early and a deck that hasn't is staggering.  In one pod I saw five players first pick a black card, some stayed to fight out the color, others switched early.  Click the link to see what I mean!

The second day of the events gets more high level players that either didn't make day two (as Brad Nelson called it: "Doran-ing" day one.  aka going 0-5).

In our midst this morning are Noah Weil, and Brad Nelson (FFreak on MTGO, and channelfireball.com).  I sat down on Friday with Brad and I'll be posting that interview later today, if all goes well.

I'm a little nervous about this event as we recently had an MTGO crash late last night.  However, things appear to have been stable since then, and I have high hopes for the events this morning.

Good luck to all the competitors of Event #3!
