This is the eternal debate over swiss vs 4322 vs 84. Well to each his own. Its obvious that this draft analyzis shouldnt be taken serious by any player on 84s and even 4322. Its a different set of players that actually plays each of this queues.
For those of you who play either of them and dont understand why the others just bash it:
Swiss Rounds:
Pros-> You get to play always 3 rounds and even if you lose you dont get eliminated.
Cons-> You are losing money.Unless you rarepick something thats worth 2 or more tix you're ALWAYS losing money.
4322:
Pros-> Decent payout even if you only win a round.
Cons-> Lose and you're out.Unless you win the draft you're still losing money
84:´
Pros-> Best payout.
Cons-> you have to win at least 2 rounds
Each person should choose their queues based on their play and skill level. And for those that are contrary to the hole "Lose money", thats the reason most pros play MTGO instead of paper magic.Paper magic doesnt pay out unless you win a big X$ or GP etc.Sure you can win your local draft and 2/3/4 packs. But most stores wont let you use those packs for your next draft so its almost irrelavant. While on MTGO if you do win a draft you're always making money.
Well I'm not new to PureMtgo , TheMiseDotCom was my previous user but since that project didnt work out I started writing as an Individual.
I actually agonized over not playing black since it was way better than red. But the red allies seemed the best build I could come up with. I wouldnt cut expedition map if I'm playing with 3 colors, I prefer to get flooded than screw in sealed and especially with an electropotence in the deck.
I think the only skill used in this draft was staying in your own colours when you get crazy stuff passed late in other colours.
I usually go crazy when I see a pacifism table, only to have white dry up cause the person next to me is drafting white but didnt see the pacifism or something.
Sticking to colours cause you know sick stuff will come for those is key.
I dont like M10 swiss for that reason.
People not knowing what they are doing can be great ( like here) or terrible cause people around you switch colours every 3 picks, sending no signals.
I like the ACR and Zen swiss, casue you can check if the deck you lose first round with is terrible or just ran into the winning draftdeck first round.
I don't know if you've already thought of this, but you could have picked up the Journey with your Skyfisher after your opponent dropped the Gladehart, then cast it again.
the ally deck seems like the direction to go. I would try and run 18 land, and play the red shrine as the synergy with electropotence is pretty nasty. nighthawk is the best card in ur pool but black is so shallow so i agree with not splashing it
Your deck ended up being pretty decent. I think you undervalue mindrot quite a bit. I consider it an auto play that i am happy about. I'd run 2 if i have the opportunity, duress on the other hand is a nice sideboard option.
Somehow, I would have preferred to play the double vampire nighthawks, the disfigure AND the heartstabber and gone with black as a splash over one of your other two colours. Personally, I'd go with vampire nighthawks - they're like a chosen and archer combined, and with deathtouch + lifelink too.
You chose to play with the chosens even though you have a 3colour deck. I'm not sure how often I can play them on turn 2 with your mana base.
If you're playing just these few red cards, I don't see how spire barrage is going to deal damage.
Also, if you're in three colours, I'd rather play reckless scholar to help you dig for the right lands/spells, and zektar shrine expedition if you wanted to stick with red. I'd definitely mainboard the explorer's scope to help dig for the right lands as well, and it's good with the eel you chose.
I'd actually play black over green.
My list would be:
0cc
Spidersilk net
1cc
Blazing torch (1)
Trusty machete (1)
Explorer's scope (1) - helps you find lands with your flyers and intimidate creature
Disfigure (B)
Burst lightning (R)
I'm new to MTGO and to PureMTGO so I don't know if this is something that has been done in the past. But I really enjoyed watching the matches so I hope there will be more video walkthroughs in the future.
I would recomend not doing articles on swiss m10 drafts. As you noted....pacifisms tabled, shivan dragon 3rd pick pack 1, mind control was around at 5th pick, etc etc. The pod you were in was full of people who dont know how to draft and it showed. Yes you got a decent deck, but you didnt deserve it, you just got lucky when you entered a swiss q
Welcome to Puremtgo. Your name rings a distant bell in my memory. (Old tv show right?) I have to say I was expecting more meat to this. Showing us what you drafted isn't imho as interesting as telling us how you played each game. Perhaps next time take notes or wait for a draft that you can get the replays working for and transcribe the action?
Hate-drafting the first booster??? Are you insane? You should be trying to get the best deck possible AND give a clear signal to your neighbor (which should give you a better deck).
Also apprentice > goliath Your reasoning should have been the other way around, you can always pick up goliaths later.
Sorry but having something fall in your lap is not a good draft article.

If you read Noble Vestige you will find out why your opponent prevented damage on himself, and didn't save his only creature instead ;)

I had actually wanted to edit this one more time before posting, but that doesn't matter at this point.
There will be more meat in the future (if there is one).
Hi, You had 41 cards in your deck. You couldve taken out Electropotence to make it exactly 40.
I would've cut the expedition map to get down to 40 cards.
Hey gwyned, where do you currently live?

Oh wow thats a lot of video to watch. I will have to watch when I have the time. Welcome to Puremtgo, Andrea. Btw Dust_@MTGO is?

yeah and good job gettin rid of that dickish guy!
Interesting draft review, but an analyse of the matches would have been nice. 3/5

Shard took the words from my mouth : )
i think you mean sensitive
its starting as a casual deck, why wouldnt you play single games. other than tournaments or tournament practice what is the point of matches?
