I don't know that there are a lot of relics around, but Jund Charm is pretty common in Jund sideboards because it's good against Boros Bushwhacker. It just hoses "dredge" as a side effect. And Jund is by far the most populous deck, so that's not great.

Also as stated, kill the crab and the deck stalls.

Nice interview. Were you able to ask anyone about adding more Pauper formats?

Ive played against that deck in the Tourny Practice Room and I was not impressed at all. It easily could fall to Relic of Proggy. Sure, It is an interesting use of the crab but other than that, its nothing great. Yes, I lost out of sure ignorance of what he was doing until I saw a Unearth creatures then I Path'd the crab.
Its such a lucky deck that is not worth mentioning other for it being interesting.

  • Rogue Play - Back to the Core   15 years 31 weeks ago

Hi guys, thanks for the comments.

To be honest I also liked my own version of Vore better and there were a lot of similar Vore decks in the top-8 lists. But I decided to show this one because this is a different build; who knows, maybe others will like this deck.

It is true that planeswalkers are VERY hard to get rid of in the format and that's why I like my WBG Planeswalker deck. It isn't the ultimate deck in the format but it's fun to play and more importantly, it has a good match-up against Control.

Mortal Combat cannot win Paul, but I am still trying to make a good Battle of Wits deck.

    Thanks again.

Just curious why the decklist for the Magnivore deck is so much different from the one you posted 2 weeks ago? Is today's decklist a recent winning deck? i actually like the one from 2 weeks ago...it's a more tighter decklist and i like that. Thanks for another Core-Set Constructed article. i'm certainly guilty of praising the format yet haven't played it (too busy w/ the Zen Swiss Drafts). I'm hoping to build the Magnivore deck tho as it's both cheap and potent. if Opp-Control wasn't so expensive, i'd definately run that. Master of the Wild Hunt went insane w/ the move from M10 drafting to Zen drafting and i think a card like that which generates free tokens is a must!

I dont like Scrabbler either. However, he does block opposing Marauders and will always be able to be cast regardless of what colors you draw...thats something, eh?

I think what you may be ignoring is that in Zendikar Sealed you sometimes dont want to build the "best" deck possible. You have to sacrifice what you normally would think is good, such as mana consistent creatures/spells and card advantage, for cards that are good in this format, like Nighthawk.

I would have to ask what bombs are you playing green for? River Boa x1, Timbermaw Larve x1, and Nissa's Chosen x2? Whoopie doo...they wont win you many games like the Nighthawk will. The Ally that pings flyers is just bad except against Blue players. Timbermaw dies to all the removal in the set and the Nissa's and Boa are good but truly unexciting when compared to things like the Marauder and Plated Gig.

After playing in about 7 sealed deck tournaments I absolutely refuse to play Green unless its just ridiculous and my other colors are bad. The commons are much worse than any other colors and you get zero removal. It always looks exciting to say that you have multiple Landfall guys + Harrow, but generally you have to cast Harrow to fix mana and then you drop a weak overcosted-in-this-format Landfall guy.

I want to say congrats hammy and the rest of the community cup winners. As if we haven't benefited enough from all of your contributions already, now we get free stuff on top of that. I couldn't help but laugh through clenched teeth as you recapped that dirty play. My point of view is it's all right since it was for the benefit of the greater good ha ha. With your combined efforts many newer players well get to have fun with Momir basic now. I'm sure there are many players who don't even know what this wacky format entails.

Could you repost the link to the Kedoria league? I'm not a part of it, but I would like to keep up with it and see how it works out. It seems really interesting, especially to me since leagues were removed from MTGO soon after I started playing so I never got to experience them.

  • Freed from the Real #39: Hollah! Multiball!   15 years 31 weeks ago

that makes sense then, i hadnt seen that version of crabs yet

  • Freed from the Real #39: Hollah! Multiball!   15 years 31 weeks ago

There is a standard deck based on filling up your own GY with black creatures (via Crab, Cycling, other means) and the black land from Zen that gives you mana for each black creature. Then you use that mana to unearth a ton of creatures and swing for a lot of damage. Extractor is one of those creatures.

  • Freed from the Real #39: Hollah! Multiball!   15 years 31 weeks ago

Extractor demon went up 1400%??? why and why and why did a junk rare like that go up? I am so confused

  • Rogue Play - Back to the Core   15 years 31 weeks ago

Battle of Wits is one of those rare cards that I'd love the opportunity to rip to shreds just for the Catharsis effect. It is extremely aggravating to lose to something so inevitable. On the other hand if it fails it really fails. I love the burning bridges deck. If I had the cards Id be very tempted to try and build something similar and play in the next event. As it stands however even though the cards are not "hot" they are beyond me at the moment. Also it seems Core has some extremely screwy metagaming going on here. Can Mortal Combat actually win?? Im surprised the Vore deck doesn't run a Chandra, Ablaze which would fit right in to feed the Vore.

    Nice avatar btw.

Edit: duh Chandra Ablaze isn't in core. Lol. *bangs head*

  • Zendikar Sealed Walktrough #1   15 years 31 weeks ago

Would most likely have built using black/red or red/green without the blue splash. If you playing electropotence I cant imagine why you wont play the shrines since thats is real easy 7 dmg. You overvalue the pyromancer I think. For 6 mana you want something bigger or better. Even with such a low amount of black you cant really ignore the nighthawks.

Good article, nice to see a few decks put up. It is nice to see a good variety of decks. I played in the Premiere event this weekend and noticed a couple of things. The first is that people still have very rough decks. I made a deck when the queue was at 21 people, and hurried a red deck together hoping to get top 16 packs. I made top 8 off of some luck and good matchups. It is nice to play a format that people are still figuring out what they are doing, and 75% of the people in the tournament had a very rough deck. One other small thing I noticed is how powerful Planeswalkers are, they can be very tough to deal with in the format.

The policy you speak of was a response to public outrage. Not silly at all imho. Wrong maybe, silly never.

  • Flying Hippos - From The Vault: Awesome!   15 years 31 weeks ago

Well the problem is Urza is such a giant set. Its 300+ cards which make those money rares even more rare. I think if you released this set, it should occur within the next 6 months. Urza won't be online til late spring/early summer. Doing this a couple of months after the release of Urza would be a pretty cool idea.
