• MOCS Season 3 Top Eight Video Coverage!   15 years 47 weeks ago

I think nodnol played really bad in game2 when he decided not to attack with the 3/1 while he had the pro green guy. Maybe I'm missing something but he would have probably won.

I really meant the starting 5-2 just to go 5-5 was disappointing. 5-5 isnt too bad with like you said the endurance it takes. But the way my pool tore people up to get me to 5-2 to see it flop in final 3 rounds was evil.

  • Live Blogging the MOCS Season 3 Championship!   15 years 47 weeks ago

is an impressive feat. 5-5 is not that bad when you consider the endurance needed just to complete it. I'm sorry you didn't do better but I bet you had some fun. Not a standard player myself so good luck with that next season.

    r10

Well my pride is hurt as I started 5-2 just to go 5-5 which is really disapointing. Well this ends my blogging as im going to grab a couple hours sleep before OLS.

    r9

I got stomped in r9 actually they were really close games but losing to someone cause his bombs are bigger than yours is kinda blah. (Sigil of Distinction) and (Mycoloth) were real pains. so now I sit at 5-4 and got no prize hopes but will stay in it for pride of atleast going 6-4 I hope. as a side note I will be in season 4 and hope to get a little test group together for std so anyone interested msg me on magic. Lets put a puremtgo player in the t8 of next season!

As a one of classic player, very interesting and well written article. great job and see ya :)

  • State of the Program - June 26th 2009   15 years 47 weeks ago

I agree titles would be helpful.

And the ticket prices fro packs(the first busy graph). I think you should have the the individual packs grouped together, and the draft sets next to each other, so it is a little easier to compare apples to apples and oranges to oranges.

Thanks for the great info Hammy

    YES

    I'd prefer classic

However, let's look at the MOCS for what it is, it's MTGO's Pro Tour. That's all well and good, but the biggest point of the Pro Tour is not paying people win at a card game, but rather to market the game to people.

I'd be interested to see how many people joined MTGO or restarted when the MOCS was announced.

I think my favorite thing about the MOCS is the end of season events, you have a giant large tournament, and you can spread those out over formats, so I am pretty dissapointed that Standard gets more than one.

I'd love to see a 300 person classic event.

  • Live Blogging the MOCS Season 3 Championship!   15 years 47 weeks ago

Sealed is a fantastic format for the mocs, although i would prefer a draft. Limited is a giant part of the game. I just hope they toss in some extended or classic later on.

  • Live Blogging the MOCS Season 3 Championship!   15 years 47 weeks ago

I am fine with sealed. I like the idea that the MOCS brings about. Good players are gonna get there I think, because really the best players are gonna be competitive bombs or not.

I just hate sledge though :(

  • Live Blogging the MOCS Season 3 Championship!   15 years 47 weeks ago

How do you guys feel about this MOCS championship being sealed? Since there is a bit of luck required to get a good pool, would you rather all of the championships be constructed?

  • Live Blogging the MOCS Season 3 Championship!   15 years 47 weeks ago

After watching your round one, I'm frustrated for you. Having your opponent get their behemoth sledge out all three games and getting screwed in game three had to feel like a kick in the balls.

  • Live Blogging the MOCS Season 3 Championship!   15 years 47 weeks ago

I'm not in the tourny so I'm going to watch the replays of your games for a couple of rounds. Tough luck eddie. You were looking great in that last round until the gharial hit the board.

I figured that in a tournament this big it would be better to save your energy rather than go crazy watching other people's games.

  • Live Blogging the MOCS Season 3 Championship!   15 years 47 weeks ago

Concerning replays I plan just to take a look at whatever my opponent has but not watch to many other games.

  • Live Blogging the MOCS Season 3 Championship!   15 years 47 weeks ago

I know that I am not going to be watching replays. I think in a tournament this big it's more important to just relax in between rounds.

That is a very good question.

  • Live Blogging the MOCS Season 3 Championship!   15 years 47 weeks ago

with this many players, are you guys going to try to watch a bunch of replays to try and get a heads up, or is it not even worth it?

  • Live Blogging the MOCS Season 3 Championship!   15 years 47 weeks ago

Good luck guys. I hope you cracked good packs.

  • BWaL: M2010 Impact on Fringe Formats and Alara Reborn Fringe Format Review of Rare and Ultra Rares   15 years 47 weeks ago

I'm gonna comment about the new rules in general. I think the new rules are worse than the actual rules and there was no need for a change. I'm a fan of this rule "if it ain't broke don't fix it" and in fact everything was working perfectly fine. The changes weren't needed and while I don't mind changes like the new names (they aren't needed but they don't affect almost anything) I do mind the huge changes in the combat.

I couldn't care less for the new names. I don't really like not being able to use wishes as well as before but I only play T2 and Extended so it's no big deal.

Ownership of tokens is irrelevant to me and I didn't even know about it.

Manaburn: doesn't make much sense taking it out and bad players get punished less when they do stuff like playing 1B for their nameless inversion and have one of those guys who reduces the cost of elementals. But it doesn't really change that much. The fact that mana clears at the end of each step also affects some legacy decks with Lion's Eye Diamond and makes mistbind clique a little better. It's not a big deal but not needed.

Lifelink and deathtouch: Again not needed but this one actually makes some sense. No more insanity of lifelink stacking but it also becomes easier to survive with a lifelink creature in play. So lifelink gets better and a few lifelink cards get worse but they didn't make much sense anyway (double lifelink matters while double flying, first strike, trample, etc don't doesn't make much sense). Deathtouch clears confusion of regeneration twice and anyway it doesn't really appear that much anyway.

Damage on stack and combat damage assignment: really this is what the changes are about. If it wasn't for this there would be some complainning about manaburn, someone remembering the wishes thing, one or two things said about lifelink and maybe one crazy combo player complainning on how is warp world deck wasn't playable anymore. When I started playing with my friends we didn't know about the stack. Not only combat damage but also the things about spells. We didn't really play counterspells and things would resolve right away I think. After a while we all quit and 2 year later I decided to go to a pre release and have never stopped playing. For a while I kept not knowing what was damage on the stack but I also didn't understand the stack. I had no one to teach me and I played online on those programs and on a site that allows free play. Situations started to appear where I didn't understand and we would go to the judges. I remember someone playing a flames of the blood hand on me while I was on 4. I had 2 counters in jitte and I said "gg". He said: "you can gain 2 in response" while I replied "I can't gain life because of flames" and he explains to mw that the spell as to resolve and only after everything takes effect and explains how I was supposed to respond and the stack. So if you want to simplify the combat, the stack itself is almost the same, maybe more complicated. Removing the stack would be much more game changing and this one could actually kill the game or at least make the player base much smaller. Yet you're simplifying the combat but something that is as hard as the combat remains the same. Doesn't make sense.

Besides the obvious hurting of a few cards, it's very relevant for some standard cards. While Qasali Pridemage got worse, it's a common so in terms of money no one is losing. However it makes fulminator mage, dauntless escort and other rares worse making everyone who has them lose money. They really should have made a set with no sac outlets, or at least just sac outlets that could only be used as sorceries to avoid loss of value with a rules change for standard cards.

Outside notes during SB: well it makes the game more like MTGO and still makes you have to do your homework. Not needed but it's nice when you're full of work/exams and go to an event and someone lends you a deck.

And also the whole thing about "50% new cards 50% reprints but many of the new are actually reprints with a new name" doesn't make sense. Why did they need to make a new remove soul, terror, etc? Ok since they are commons it doesn't hurt much but it still hurts the value of those textless promos and the ptqs right after m10 is released some people will have to spend money on those commons. And than the uncommon savannah lions. Nice job! Now my 5 lions are worse even less...

All in all: I won't quit as the game is still pretty good but the changes were unnecessary are certainly do more harm than good.

I actually lost a draft the other day because I misclicked mana in the declare attacker step. so people who are "used to the interface" face these problems as well from time to time.

  • State of the Program - June 26th 2009   15 years 47 weeks ago

You do get points for playing as well, I'll break it down more in the near future of course, but 8 player drafts net you three more points. :)

  • State of the Program - June 26th 2009   15 years 47 weeks ago

yea no joke, i did two 4322 arc drafts last night, i took one rare the out of six packs and that was jankie to begin with, absolutly nothing of value at all in any pack. i did win the first one with no rares and in the second one i was tired and lost anyways in the third game with no rares still in the deck.

    wheres my foil bolas??

  • State of the Program - June 26th 2009   15 years 47 weeks ago

    yea for frequency program!!!!!

i was bitching about that last week, im sure i wasnt the catalist for it, but hey! ill take it. so you get points for logging in, get points for buying product, get points for tourneys, but how about drafts? any points for that?????

i picked a bad time to lighten up on mtgo......or did i???????? dam you wotc

  • State of the Program - June 26th 2009   15 years 47 weeks ago

For posting that. Otherwise I'd never have read about it.

  • State of the Program - June 26th 2009   15 years 47 weeks ago

Log on five times a month and I get a free land? I'm sold. I hope Unhinged or Unglued ones are coming up next, as I only care for a few of the APAC lands.

I'm surprised you don't get bonus points for actually winning a tournament...

  • BWaL: M2010 Impact on Fringe Formats and Alara Reborn Fringe Format Review of Rare and Ultra Rares   15 years 47 weeks ago

You are correct, I understood that in the complete wrong context. Thank you for clearing up my poor statement. Still, that said, I can't agree totally with the removal of mana burn, it's difficult for me to have it removed when I've played since the beginning and find mana burn to be a fundamental and foundational aspect of the game. Ah well.
