I was trying to pick up some cards during the release events, and trades were definitely failing. We'd sit on the "confirm" screen forever and then the trade would just suddenly close with no cards actually traded, no "trade has been cancelled" notification, nothing. I tried again after this and got the same result. We're talking multiple hours devoted to one trade here...
I didn't think it was sarcastic, but I think my reply came off harsher than I meant it to.... Sorry about that.
In essence, I haven't seen any trouble getting a trade to go through... eventually. It's horrible that it takes a long time, but it almost always go through... eventually.
I was able to sell, buy and self-trade throughout the lag... again, eventually. :)
There were times when it was infuriating, and sometimes it took two trades to get it to go through; but at no point has it been impossible for me to trade this week (the first weekend was far, far worse. It was nigh-impossible to trade during the first weekend).
I haven't really see the lag stopping trading enough to account for card values of all formats to rise. I imagine that there are some who get fed up and don't bother right now, but not enough to account for the increase across the board.
My above remark wasn't meant to be sarcastic at all. My point was that because it was so cumbersome to make a trade that people who would normally sell are waiting until the lag is gone and thus creating an artificially low supply.
My guess is that a lot of QP's will come from draft and 8 player queues since a player can grind and grind and grind.... for a cost. And that's where WotC's about to see some good growth, I imagine.
Anything that fires on demand and awards QP's is probably going to be hit hard during the last week of the month, and probably hit pretty hard throughout the rest of the weeks as well...
15 qps looks tough to get.. since u'd have to t8 a pe 5 times a month or rake up 3 8 man wins instead of a pe..
looks like it's time to start spending on mtgo huh.. =)
Somehow I haven't experience any lag or had any trouble trading since events starting. Even at the start of the events I barely had any lag, and I was 13th in queue for the first 16 man sealed (which fired at 8 people...) - the queues themselves were lagging, but actual play was flawless. I also had one 16-man where I was disconnected while waiting in line and never told about it, but I'm not sure that was due to lag - when I tried playing with the 140 cards deck I was forced to play, everything ran smoothly. I was on last night and everybody was complaining loudly in the chat, yet I played a draft with 0 lag. What gives?
Also, mutavault still doesn't show in the tables. Some guy was saying it dropped from 20 to 16 last week yet it didn't show in the charts, to which you replied it might be too recent and only show on this week's chart. Mutavault is currently a 15$ card on mtgotraders and yet it's still not on the charts. So, what's up with that?
I basically never play constructed (at least not in the queues) and only play in limited events.
Heck, I haven't built a (true) standard-legal deck in several years.
But with this announcement, I think Wizards has just drawn me back into constructed.
Reason: I'm only an OK player. I win my drafts now and then, and (very) occasionally top 8 a premiere
event.
[side note: I won a tempest premiere about two weeks ago to my complete shock as I had basically
rare-drafted during the top 8 as it was my last set of tempest packs and I didn't foresee buying any more, go me :)]
Unfortunately, trying to win 15 drafts and/or top 8 in 5 premiere events in a single month is just way too much probable expenditure of packs. However, if I can build a standard (or whichever format) deck with a limited amount of extra card purchases, I can try over and over again in the constructed queues for a much more reasonable cost outlay....
So, it looks like I'm about to become a constructed player again !!!!
Or is your comment just a complaint about the horrendous lag we've been experiencing?
Because I'll agree with you that the lag is absolutely awful. Completely and terribly frustrating.
But it really has nothing to do with card prices. It neither increases them nor decreases them, as near as I can tell it washes out. It makes buying from bots harder as it makes human decision processes a bit more important. It also ties up players/dealers longer because it takes 10x as long to do the trade.
However! There are still more than enough bots and players to provide cards. I was buying cards last night during the uber-lag, and it sucked, but it worked with no extra cost to the cards themselves.
No. Lag isn't the culprit for higher cards prices.
Believe it or not, it's DEMAND that's behind it.
Shocking, I know... but it appears to be the case.
Actually I was talking about win percentages in MODO. Is there a way to see how often an archetype beats another within the data that you are digging through within MODO or would it need to be a manual calculation?
Its true that I prefer to draft Grixis over any other shard and I probablyforce it trough from the start unless I get a more clear signal on any other shard. I like the Blood CUltist over Bone Splinters principaly for that reason since I'll salways play the Cultist while the Splinters depends on how many Zombies or Dragon Fodder / Blister Beetle I can get. Bone Splinter is clearly a superior and power ful card and probably the best pick there but I'm confortable drafting the way I did since I prefer to pick the Cultist instead of drafting mediocre cards to go along with the Splinter.
The time has come to announce the winners of the deck naming portion of the Stronghold Player Created Theme Deck Project.
First I want to say thanks for all the great submissions. This was a really fun project to be a part of and I look forward to doing it again in the future. If you have any ideas or comments about the project, feel free to pipe up and make your voice heard over in the Magic Online forum or right here.
So, without further ado….
The name of the PureMTGO Stronghold Theme Deck is …. ‘Nature’s Vengeance’ submitted by Mattalic.
Congratulations to all of our winners: Aleister, Velveeta, Mattalic, lkibe1 (and our runners up Bazaar of Baghdad and platipus10).
I just want to thank all the players for their participation and ClassicQuarter and PureMTGO for hosting these projects. Please give everyone who helped make this happen a big round of forum applause.
Nice article. I can't say much about classic as its just a format with no interest for me, but the analysis made for Extended and Standard is quite accurate.
Are you able to data mine win percentages within a format. For example, I'm curious on how the 4c Doran does versus 5c Control and Faeries. Is it favored, neutral, or a dog?

Totally lame!

The 15$ mutavault is actually the promo, which I don't think has even been released yet. The actual price of mutavault is 15.90$ on mtgotraders.
That's a good question... I'll check the numbers and get back on that.

Another great article with plenty of analysis.
I don't think lag has anything to do with prices.
Much like I said in this thread (which, ironically enough came to the opposite conclusion as your statement);

I wonder if the rising Conflux prices are due too people not wanting to wait up to 10 minutes for a trade to go through.

Another Great article =)
Esperzoa and Bone Saw has been pretty dang good to me. Gets ugly fast (esp. if you pick up more than 1 Bone Saw).
Wow! Stiff competition! Very excited, and what a nice surprise. Cheers to all.

Well I didnt test trough the 4c Doran but if you check here: http://www.wizards.com/magic/magazine/article.aspx?x=mtg/daily/feature/29a it should give you a more decent view on the win percentages

He can't exploding borders for 5 if he started with 2 trilands, in round 3 game 1.
