My top-pick common of all time is probably Aurochs Herd. Assuming we're talking about CCC or some other format where I can expect to see more Aurochs Herds. At least three, but I've played as many as six.
If not, then something like Lightning Bolt or Incinerate. You can never go wrong with cheap burn in Limited. Although I would usually pick Kaervek's Torch over Incinerate in Mirage. Not sure about 10th Edition. There is some good blue and black in that format....
Some people will try to make the Mimics work, but will do so at the cost of good decks.
Now are you meaning all the mimics? Personally i could see Nightsky Mimic being part of the aggro orzhov. Especially turn three you would have removal from unmake or pillory followed by a turn 4 blind hunter.
maybe i was wrong but i thought applying a new skin was as easy as unzipping the files then copying and pasting the graphics part into the mtgo file...hmmm
Good points, I will have to remember the manamorphose thing as I usually don't think about that spell too often.
As for the Crabpple pick, I haven't been too impressed with him yet and I had what I though was enough five drops at that point and even if I picked him, I'm not sure if I would have played it. I also didn't realize how creature light I was at that point so maybe I would have.
I have to say this certainly went better than your last article, however I saw some mistakes while looking through this. Early on in the draft you had the choice between Old Ghastbark and Manamorphose, and didn't know if you were in GW or GR. Here, since you had the torrent I wouldve taken the morphose just in case so I could splash torrent. For some reason people just dont like torrent of souls even though it is one of the better uncommons in the set. Secondly Pack 3 Pick 5 you took Gleeful Sabotage over Crabapple Cohort which to me seems just wrong. Sabotage sometimes tables, and while its good, the Cohort could've really helped you're somewhat creature light deck.
Everyone who has read my drafts knows how much I love the Steel of the Godhead. But people are on to the auras and pretty much everyone has a way to deal with them leaving you at a disadvantage. I still will play it, but that early, I don't know if I could take it as a signal.
It's hard to worry about signalling sometimes, and quite frankly, it's only one pack that is affected by the bad signals to your left. Sometimes, you just have to say bummer for them. It turned out OK in the end though as I didn't end up in those colors at all.
Hi! Good job posting these walkthroughs, this is certainly a fine way to improve drafting skills for everyone.
I disagree with some of your picks, though. In pack 1 pick 2, you chose kulrath knight in a pack that also had ashenmoor gouger. Knight is a better card, I agree, but the person you are passing to is going to see a 3rd pick Ashemoor Gouger, maybe thinking that B/R is open. I think there's a signaling issue here. Maybe it is a personal thing, but I'm always nervous when I have 2 great cards in the same colour in a pack. I would have passed both R/B cards and taken the Briarberry Cohort. Just as you ended up G/W you could also have gone U/W. Also in pick 6 you passed a Last Breath, which I wouldn't have. Sure, Torrent of SOuls is great, but we're talking about removal here, in the two colours that are most lacking in it. Personally, when i draft GW I pick removal even higher than usual, even conditional removal like this.
I frequently board in elvish hexhunter; there are a LOT of auras you want to deal with in this format. Sure, there are better ways to deal with them (turn to mist springs to mind) but you have to make sure that your deck can deal with these threats.
In your final GW deck, you have only 13 creatures, which in my opinion is very low for GW. I think you'd need a great amount of removal and tricks/card advantage to make it with such a low creature count, something in which G and W don't exactly excel.
This is just my personal opinion, I hope it helps and you found it constructive.
I agree with almost all your picks, however pick #25 of Ghastbark over manamorphose just seems wrong directly after taking torrent, even if you do have the Leige. Not even mentioning the incredibly high curve in this deck. The barkshell vs cohort at pick 16 is one of the closest in this draft in my opinion, but I think your choice was correct, even though it didn't pan out.
I think you will find that Magus of the moon (and not the Demigod) is the most expensive card in the deck. They go for between 7 an 8, while the demigod is 3-4. This relates to the mono-red aggro deck you refer to.
Just a guess ... but I am seeing Shield of Kaldra get a lot of play in EDH. Not really sure how much a singleton format could sway prices, but it's just something I noticed.
After being a MTG player when Revised came out and quitting when 6th edition came out, I put in a solid 3 yrs into the game and later sold my cards like a moron.
Well later on in life I find myself craving a card game to play after playing some MMORPG's .
I knew MTG was online, looked into. Seemed like it was still gonna be rather expensive to form a collection, even online :(
So I did some quick searchs for CCG's online. Found Poxnora.
Played a couple of the free games using sample BG's. It kinda reminded me of FF Tactics while playing. I asked around, and found I could form a decent deck for under $20. The site accepts Paypal. So I bought some cards and loved every minute it from the get go.
Since I've been playing for 4mths now, a new expansion has come out, allowing you to play the computer and complete campagins to win fragments. Fragments can be used to craft Free Packs, Special Limited Edition runes, Make your cards nameable and other fun stuff. It adds a whole new aspect and "goals" for playing the game.
It's brung a Lot more people in, and the game is doing well.
you've already made your tix back... whereas trying to win the 6 packs in split finals is a 1/4 chance if you are an average player, and lets say you're TWICE as good as the average player, thats still 50/50...
remember in magic, like in poker - always take the +EV play :p
you passed a biting tether by taking puncture bolt....
I've got nothing to add to ImTheChamp as he's right... being critical not flaming = you were being passed nuts cards and you didn't see it... At most you can play firespout by splashing for it.
spawnwrithe is obviously the pick, not only should you have mulled in that game, but see how spawnwrithe is doing the job it should have done on your team...

Thanks hammy for the artcle. keep up the good work bro.

How can you not take a third pick Steel of the Godhead and never look back?

In what world is a Sunken Ruins and a Foil Graven Cairns worth 10? Your talking 5 or 6 tix for the pair at current mtgo prices.
I have to agree with you manamorphose was the better pick there. Good analysis

You have the prices for Magus of the Moon and Niv-Mizzet switched.
1890 player, pssh.
Yeah i've had a ton of people buying the kaldra cards lately i'm not sure why. I guess it's mostly EDH though huh.
just wanyted to thank you for your comments on mythic rares

even in 8-4 you take the sunken ruins and foil cairns as it's the +EV play
14 tix to enter a draft
taking sunken ruins and foil cairns = roughly 10 tix. Wilt leaf liege = 4.5
