What sort of information would you like to see in the SOTP? Hammy removes information once that information is no longer relevant to the article. We are working on getting some interviews with WOTC staff among some other things but are always open to more ideas on the type of content you would like to see. The majority of the time put into the article has to do with the prices which is a lot of database work.
Hey guys if you attack someone else i'm removing your comment. If you disagree with someone please do it in a mature manner. We want our site to be safe for readers of all ages. Keep the feedback coming and thanks for reading the articles.
I presume the previous comment is designed to be an ironic commentary on the fact that there is no apparant way to report abusive comments made about this article which includes advice on how to report abusive message board comments.
Please stop posting text from previous articles. If we want to see that information, we can look at your old articles.... ie... the weekly recaps at the beginning of the article and the links to the discussion boards that has previously been included. Otherwise, I enjoy your column each time it is posted.
Thanks for the suggestion, next time I'll just note when it's not as vulnerable to removal then.
@ SpikeBoyM
What said control decks would Oona's Grace be played in? The only one I can imagine is Storm Control. Dark Evo and Grimdrifter already have a ton of draw with Mulldrifter and Phyrexian Rager.
I did not realize Talara's Bane only discards creatures. Okay, 1/5.
Would Flame Jab be good in RDW? Would RDW even have room for Flame Jab? Doubtful. Two mana and two cards to do two damage is horrid. If it was instant speed, I would be inclined to agree that it would be useful, but it's not.
Puncture Blast is good, if you have the mana. Chill to the Bone is probably the best black removal, if you have the mana. Usually you don't. 3 damage for 3 mana is overcosted. Especially with Lash Out and Incinerate around, I don't see decks dropping either to run Puncture Blast when most of the time you're going to kill something that doesnt have a toughness of 4 or greater.
Wickerbough Elder is a four to cast for a 3/3. That's really bad. IF, and I stress, IF there is a target, then he is a five mana 4/4. That's still worse than the likes of Crabapple Cohort, which has an easier ability to trigger and is larger for the same mana. Scuzzback Marauders and several other 5 drops are just as good, if not better, with less conditional abilities. As for being able to reliably grow him, I don't know how good the new auras will be since Shield of the Oversoul is the best of the series and that hardly sees any action.
Noggle Bandit is slightly better Amrou Scouts, Infiltrator Il-Kor, or Skirk Shaman. Those three cards are not played or hardly played at all.
I think you are being far too hard on a number of cards, and overvaluing a number of other cards. Starting with Oona's Grace- this card gives true control a late game plan and is a card I can't imagine not running in said control decks. Talara's Bane is so so narrow, there is no point in even considering it for a sideboard slot. I think you underrate Flame Jab and Puncture Blast. Jab just turns late game lands into damage, which is very important in aggro decks. Blast, on the other hand, is a other three mana instant that deals three damage, which is solid. Similarly, it can function as a combat trick. Wickerbough Elder is far from terrible, especially since you think the auras are going to be played. I also think you undervalue Noggle Bandit as a 2/2 unblockable is good all on its own, without any help from an aura.
Thanks for the support. I don't know if a deck built entirely around Eventide would work in Standard since they would rely heavily on the mimics and the auras.
@JMason
That's rather unfortunate, since that relegates Wickerbough Elder to the sideboard unless your deck decides to mainboard Elsewhere Flask or Chromatic Star to guarantee a target and makeup for the card disadvantage.
As for the conjugation, good catch! Sometimes it skips my mind while I'm writing. I will make a mental note of that for my next article.
good review quite informative so seeing the phrase it dies to removal every two cards did get old, especially considering most cards in pdc die to removal...its a fact of magic but shouldnt get counted against a card...i mean every non-black creature dies to terror.....but we still play nonblack creatures.
These types of articles are my favorite reads. They keep me coming back each day to MTGO Traders to check for a new one. Maybe next time you'll build a deck around some of the new cards? Good job!
i see your point crummy i was in charge of MTGO interviews and not having much experience in tourny reports i will take your opinions real serious and apply them to my next tourny report whenever that will be i appreciate the feedback
The complaints are about the brevity of the article. There is nothing in this article about important plays to make against specific decks or how to play faeries in the matchups. In fact, there isn't even detail about the sideboard changes after game 1 and the reasoning for these changes. Coupled with the numerous grammatical and spelling errors, the entirety of the article just seems unprofessional.
On the other hand, I did enjoy watching your finals games last night. =D
Well i was under the impression of that puremtgo likes writers from ALL formats of MTGO i consider PDCs a format for MTGO so i wrote about it. To be honest i wouldn't mind going to a PTQ based on PDC format. And i hope to see more people showing up to PDC events.
Once upon a time tournament reports were epic reads, long before "event threads" ever happened. I recommend you google search for some reports by Brian Hacker, Jamie Wakefield, or Randy Beuhler.
If tournament reports were so bad, then why would Starcity allow Pat Chapin to write one?
ok so in drfating when is it time to abandon safety and go for it? I was drafting SSE for beta...anyways Pick 1 Pack 1 i pick Torrent of Souls figuring i can at least splash it and i love the card. I proceed to pick a variety of hybrids trying to find a good color group..U/b and R/G dried up quickly and i didnt see much b/r pack 1. Pack 2 though i opened Demigod of Revenge and got passed Ashenmoor Gouger. Now is this a moment in draft where you throw caution out the window and snatch any playable b/r spell regardless of other cards in the pack? Or did i make the wrong decision?
I think that every once in a while it's a good thing to have a PDC article on a website (either the MTGO Website or Pure, or mtgocasual, or whatever). Whenever I see one I think "I really wish I had more time so I could play PDC again...". Publicity for the format is probably a good thing, in the long run.
Just a couple thoughts about why making a good tourney report into an article might be an acceptable practice from time to time.
I think that both posting to the event thread and posting to a website are beneficial for very different reasons. The event thread is for the tight-knit community and building up each other. The website is to get new blood into the format. Both are good things, I think.
That will work if the folders contain ALL the art (both unchanged and changed). If the folder your unzipping (which has a bunch of other folders) only has the files that have changed all of your previous folder contents will be overwritten with only what was in the .zip file.
So for some of the zips, you can just copy over the folders and overwite the old ones. For other zips, you may overwrite the old folder with a folder that doesn't have everything it needs to display the client (anything that wasn't in the new .zip's folders will be gone).
It's possible that whichever you were unzipping had all the art files, both changed and unchanged. But if you unzipped an archive that only had the changed files you very likely could mess up the look of your client.
Rather than try to point out 'how' to determine what files were changed and if any were missing I went down the path of making it standard for each. :)

Seems like a thorough review.
Wickerbough Elder requires a target.
Please note that the possessive form of it does not take an apostrophe.

Haha, what does that have to do with anything you crazy crazy guy?

nice bpdc report. and congrats on the W, even if you beat my clannie to get it.
Once upon a time people posted things like these in event threads. Kind of sad that you submitted this to puremtgo I must say.
Tnx again for the article I really love them, now I need just to play a premier* so you can feature me :) :) :)
*As soon that I make sure, my client won't crash everytime I play a runed halo (take this seizmic and grapeshot :))
Great article and information on skins Hammy! I'm on board for the Red/Gold myself, vibrancy added to that drab client layout!
As always, Hammy's got the scoop.
ok that may be why I had to repair after every update here lately....though the standard way is far too complicated but danmage's program is amazing.

That was me. Didn't realize I wasn't logged in.
