Lol.. Evan is not here to bash mtgo.. You have to admit that every point the characters make are valid. People think like that. While people hate and like mtgo, you can really see how some changes have to be made in the future. It's more of a collective voice of the people.

Everyone disagree about how good or bad something is. For example, I prefer having bots around since I can get any card I might ever want, including commons and uncommons. The rares are usually cheaper too. I don't really care if they take server space. Anything takes server space. Instead of killing bots, we should "wish" to get super solid servers.

Carry on the good work Evan! Hope you continue tapping my cards so I can start to untap them when shadowmoor comes around.. =)

Info on Reflecting Pool.  I hope its in!

  • Casual Giants   17 years 6 weeks ago

I'd take the Crushers out and put in Cloudgoats :).  If I manage to get on tonight, perhaps I'll give that a whirl.  If I wasn't playing Mutavault, I'd prolly try adding some Quicksands to the mix to see how those play.

BTW, after the gym today I went to one of my local markets and picked up some dates, yeah thats right...  I wish I had said picked up a date ha. I thought I might as well give them a decent try for the first time based mostly from your comments about them in /join puremtgo.  They tasted like crayons!!  not that I know what those taste like or anything...

  • Casual Giants   17 years 6 weeks ago

Cloudgoat is a decent card, but if your playing Crusher your not going to really be able to play him that much.  To be honest, I think Brion is tricky too.

  • Casual Giants   17 years 6 weeks ago

Good article! For those of us on a budget, what would you suggest to play instead of the Crushers and Vaults?

  • Casual Giants   17 years 6 weeks ago

    Hi

Blind spot and Mutavault. That is a cool combo

  • The Magic Show Special Edition #2 - MTGO and You   17 years 6 weeks ago

Wow, the internet is serious business. Super serious.

     It's a joke people. It's funny. It's a satirical look at MTGO

  • The Magic Show Special Edition #2 - MTGO and You   17 years 6 weeks ago

As long as we are dropping percentages that was about 1% related to the topic :P

Grats on dropping those bad habits tho

    Tyler:

As far as general feedback on your build goes, Evu is right regarding Consume, it is better than Drain.

Also, i highly reccommend adding Crypt Rats to the main. They work in concert with the Drifters and Gatekeepers to to form more of a harvesting/evoke toolbox (I actually also have been using Mournwhelk). The Rats are excellent to trigger Gatekeeper activations if you need to as well as deal with regenerators. You really dont need Festercreep because you can just stack regen triggers anyway typically. I may add Fester at some point but right now there doesnt seem to be a need. The Rats are also potent as an additional finisher. I use them as a recurring Hurricane of sorts in the lategame. The deck is able to gain a life edge most of the time so you can maqny time just use the Rats to burn people out. Finally, they are the only real Wrath in PDC.

As for the Land, yes thats too much. I would go 23 or 24 depending if you are running the Aboms. I would not run the Cycle lands. They will just hurt your swamp count.

Walkerdog, thanks for playing in, and writing about, the Classic PDC tournament (not to mention donating a prize!).

I think you're going in the right direction with your proposed changes to your deck.  One thing I would point out is that Consume Spirit was common in Mirrodin and is strictly better than Drain Life.  On the subject of your land count, I don't know what's normal in most builds of that deck, but I hardly ever go above 24 land in Pauper even in control decks; since card advantage is so much harder to come by, I find it's more important to squeeze as much utility as you can out of the cards you do draw.  Of course, Mulldrifter helps a lot.

You're right that Guardian of the Guildpact is a real pain, but with full sets of Innocent Blood and Abyssal Gatekeeper, plus Grim Harvest to recur the Gatekeeper indefinitely, you're as prepared as any deck in the format to deal with it.

Didn't realize CQ was running an event on Saturday; sorry I missed it, although I was out of the house that day anyway.

    Tyler:

Its cool if you don't remember where you saw it, but I did happen to design the Gatekeeper/Mulldrifter/Chilling Shade MBC version of the deck that has been played.

Here is a link to the thread for this deck on the PDCmagic Classic boards.

Grimdrifter is typically used to describe the Standard & Future extended decks with Mulldrifter & Grim Harvest, however this has gone by the name Bu Control.

I absolutely agree... but honestly, this list had been sitting on my HD for so long I didn't know whose idea it was originally, plus I did state that I wasn't the originator.  I asked someone who came up with that engine, and got a name, but couldn't find that conversation later.  If you know who was the Bu creator, please name them (or was it you?).  I'll be happy to add that to the article.

The ORB doesnt say a damn thing about reflecting pool, so where did u get that idea from?

  • The Magic Show Special Edition #2 - MTGO and You   17 years 6 weeks ago

    Dear Magic Community,

Once upon a time, I was a Hardcore Magic Junkie. I had gotten extremely lucky, and at the tender age of sixteen, i squeaked a PTQ win by playing suicide black w/ HATRED.

That weekend i won, i had decided not to drink myself retarded and attend the PTQ. After I won, I tried to balance my partying with playing, but the hot chix @ the parties just didnt understand how good of a card dark ritual was.

Soon, i quit magic, both competetively and casually, although i frequently used Rhox, and pithing NEEDLE.

Now, i have FINALLY cast needle drop, burned all my rhox, and feel much healthier.

I started playing MTGO, after years of absence. I must say, the only bad things are, the LAG and sometimes the bots.

With the lag, it always suck no arguing over that, but with the bots, it is nice to be able to buy any card u want any time of day.

The downside to the bots, they suck up krapp loadz of space on the server, and they completely edge out anyone looking to trade person2person.

One must always remember however, there are those who complain about bots because they want to trade with some NOOB who will give up a mutavault for a Shivan Dragon.

What is more fair, riping off newbies, or bots that force out almost all trading.

     Makes u think,

    RHOX + Needleshot killz

If one is basing their deck one someone else's build as you clearly state you did, I think it would be appropriate to give proper credit to the original designer.

Zomg coyote, I loved ur article!

    It's me DME btw.  :D

  • Casual Giants   17 years 6 weeks ago

Giants?  More than half of your creatures are Kithkin, and only the 4x Greathearts work well with the Giant Theme.  I've been playing around with a Giant Warrior deck in RW.  It seems to do well.  How about revamping to be more of a Giant build than a hybrid build....just a thought.

  • Casual Giants   17 years 6 weeks ago

I really like the interaction of Grunt and Crusher -- nice catch!

IIRC, AaFo stated at one point that a fixed Lightning Bolt would be Incinerate without the no-regen clause.

And allow me to paraphrase: "To make this deck competitve, turn it into the goblin deck." :)

  • The Magic Show Special Edition #2 - MTGO and You   17 years 6 weeks ago

I moan and whinge through most games, and most aspects of MTGO, I have both been and come face to face with the two examples in this vid. The only reason to moan about MTGO at the moment imo is the lag... it's a joke that it can't be solved easily. Were playing a card game for crying out loud, it's hardly Counterstrike or Unreal Tournament, I can play both those games lag free so why MTGO is a mess............. who knows.

But anyway, besides that, this vid and article is just plain bad. It's not funny, it's just a massive whine. I don't mind whining, but don't bill it as funny when it really is not.

I think people are mad because it hits a little too close to home especially with something they obviously spend lots of time doing.

MTGO blows for these various reasons.  It has such great potential and can be full of awesome but is implemented in the worst way possible.  WoTC can't even promote the game because of the server issues.  If they could sustain even a 10,000 player server population, they could literally print money.  If they had multiple servers with this kind of capactiy, release weekends could actually *happen*.
