• Casual Play -- Cry Havoc and Let Slip the Cats of War!   17 years 30 weeks ago

Welcome aboard. The article makes for an interesting read: I briefly touched on the Warpride for tribal back in June in my 'Step in Time' article, but this sort of in-depth Johnny coverage is excellent, and I like the way you addressed as many formats as possible.

The server stats were one of my side projects a few moons ago that I let lapse due to a few reasons.  I now have it much more automated as well as being held in a DB for easier stats gathering.  It will be here for as long as the article is. :)

Thanks again to everyone for the kind words!  I always hoped something like this would be picked up by WotC themselves, but that doesn't seem to be in the cards (heyohh), so I guess I'll just keep doing it. ;)

There is no need for you to go back and relink all of the cards. I can just not be lazy and use the spoiler, or gatherer.

    Great Article Eric!

The downside of accepting Lorwyn based content is the cards are not in the autocarder yet, when they are in our system, I will personally go back and link all of the cards.

  • State of the Program September 27th, 2007   17 years 31 weeks ago

Good stuff.  i like having a place to catch up on the weeks events as a one stop shop.  Server availibility records are a biggy - don't let it go!

  • Standard With Lorwyn- The Future of Aggro   17 years 31 weeks ago

I like your analysis, and look forward to reading about your decks with the other creatures in lorwyn. Especially Elementals.

  • Standard With Lorwyn- The Future of Aggro   17 years 31 weeks ago

I want to read the rest of the article, but some cards aren't linked, and I don't know what they are.

Good job on the first article.  Please try to get a picture for your avatar if you can.  Keep up the good work!

  • They did what now? The art of Tribal Wars   17 years 31 weeks ago

This is true: Blue does indeed have some removal options, but blue and green are still very light on removal compared to the other three colors. Omnibian can play the part of Pongify-on-a-stick to some extent, at least in cases where being a 3/3 would be fatal. Which with this deck is quite often.

  • They did what now? The art of Tribal Wars   17 years 31 weeks ago

I included 'tron alongside Cloudpost-Vesuva for the novelty of an almost completely colorless manabase. It could be argued that some landsearch would be helpful, but there's something to be said for not having to worry about color whatsoever. The ridiculousness of the 'tron and cloudposts combined allows for being able to play and use the ring in the same turn as early as turn 6 with the right lands. Not likely but damnably fun when it happens.

Colorless mana bases can be interesting: Golems tend to work better with artifact lands due to Mycosynth Golem, Myr don't really need that much mana, and artifact dragons rely on basic land types. Constructs are stronger with snow lands, although that tribe just went through the roof with this update. That leaves the Juggernauts, and dropping 2 or 3 monsters in a turn or dropping and activating a Stone first and then an unstoppable threat does the job nicely.

  • They did what now? The art of Tribal Wars   17 years 31 weeks ago

blue does in fact have some decent removal in pongify and it even doubles as combat trick

  • They did what now? The art of Tribal Wars   17 years 31 weeks ago

Just curious about the inclusion of tron in the deck.  It seems like Cloudpost + Vesuva would be solid.  While you'd likely want to run Sylvan Scrying I could see that working out pretty well.

Good to see some fun things come out of these errata updates.

    Woot MTGO!

    Hammy,

This article is something I love to read on the wizards boards, but here it just looks so much better and much more organized; maybe it's just the background, Idk, but it's nice.

I'm glad somebody puts forth the time to let us all know what's going on in a singular, collective article/post with proof of what's being said/done/rumored/etc.

    Great job,

I think this a good place to have these, and good work on it.

On the price of Goyf, yeah if you told me a year ago a new Green two drop would be worth more then Absorb I would have laughed at you.  If you said it made Wild Mongrel look bad I would have laughed more.  If you said some people would say it's better then Tog* I would have fallen over laughing and probably have to be taken to a hospital.

But what can I say I guess Wizards thought deck construction was stale without every deck playing the same creature.

*For the record I do not think this for a number of reasons, however Tarmogoyf is the more flexable creature, though clearly you should be running both.

P.S. When is Vampiric Tutor going to drop in price?  I can't imagine anyone buying them at 30ish tix considering Freeform is the only place you can run more then one.

HEY! Calm down man. This was kind of a "feeler article" for me. It was a very basic set of ideas that I have used myself in draft that have ultimately helped me win...alot. It was intended for players on a lower to mid-skill level. Which seems obvious because if your pro you already know these ideas. Due to such good response to this article, at least until now, I am planning to do some follow up articles. How many? Thats hard to say because limited can be approached in an infinite number of ways, and sadly enough I'm going to try and cover ALL OF EM. Bread Theory, curve, splashing, very in-depth guide to signaling(as that is what people are dieing for), to whatever idea that crosses my mind and the mind of my readers. And you have my word that NONE of those will be tossed together, they will be my absolute best work I can do. Until then, CHILL OUT.

  • State of the Program September 27th, 2007   17 years 31 weeks ago

There were a couple of V3 things that came in while I was submitting the article.  Mostly things related to drafts from what I can tell, nothing majorly updated since a couple of weeks ago.

With that said, if you haven't updated V3 in a couple of months, that's something I'd recommend.  Things are looking better and better.  It's not great, but it's not a brown flavored migrane as much.

And thank you all for the warm words.  Hopefully having a deadling for State will keep them on a more regular schedule from now on. ;)

I was going to write a detailed critique on this article, but I had so much written that I'm writing my own article for new drafters instead.  Stay tuned for it.

Also, who is the intended audience for this article?

I always enjoy the SotP reports you give.  Excellent work.  The new price fluctuation thing is very interesting!

What about version 3 updates?  Anything to say about that recently?

    Thanks again.

Insert standing ovation and round of applause.

Erik, you are doing a great service to the MTGO community and I hope you get the recognition you deserve.  You are one of the Good Men of MTGO.  Many thanks.

It's a fair bit of work. :)  But it's something we need.  We haven't really had an 'MTGO' article for quite a while.  I used to do these weekly on the boards, but I think that having an official, weekly recap would be a good thing for a regular website.

    WoW

This is a great article I most say. Seems like a lot of work, and it's very well done. One part very interesting was the removal of Top8 Draft, I hope that they aren't even really considering removing them. It's my favorite part of making a final table in limited is getting a free draft. I actually hate the sealed portion and I know a few others who feel the same.

  • Limited Teachings   17 years 31 weeks ago

I could hardly read this because it is so poor on grammar and spelling.

Seriously, does anyone proof read articles before publishing them, if they do... they need to be fired.
