I'm playing the Dredge Deck since it was posted and it's fun but really not that great.
I lack the expensive duals but the mana base is ok nonetheless.
Geae's Blessing would be the bane of this deck, your opponenet would want to sideboard it IN your deck if he could.
The whole idea is to fill your graveyard with dredge 5/6 from troll and imp, then cast a troll which is huge, or attack with Svogthos.
Having your graveyard shuffled back would mean the deck has to start all over again.
I dont play the Specters cause I dont have them, I run an avatar of woe and verdant force ( which is cool with dread return flashback)
The mountain skragg rage pits seem redundant, altho the life of the loam engine is important cause once you start dredging you dont draw any new cards, which means no more land drops.
So you need the Loam to make sure you keep the land drops.
My thoughts on the decl: It's fun to play and can certainly win, but some matches are very uneventfull
I can kind of see how the dredge deck works...Wouldnt it be feesible to run gaea's blessing, or is that counter productive working against the theme of the deck?
Other than the 3x Shock and some counters, what else do you have against decks that aren't based on creatures? Specifically, you need a secondary kill condition. Trying to keep with the budget, adding Blaze ($0.25 each) with Extraplanar Lens ($0.60 each) to double your Island power provides more bang for the buck than six damage in pings.
Good to see you writing, my pauper based clan on mtgo has often learned from your deck building skills and it's nice to have someone share knowledge of the format in another venue. With time, hopefully a short time, this format will be sanctioned. It's catching on fast online and I was playing in small all commons tourneys (as they were called back then) back when invasion came out. Cheers to your writing gig and insightful theory.
Pretty cool article, but didn't you forgot about psionic blast? I'm sure that price of blast in few next weaks will be sky rocket. Obv we will c. Grats.
I am Glad the MTGO traders have taken on an author that is an expert in the subject of PDC and PDC theory. Other authors have just skimmed the surface of what PDC really is. Alex was very consice in his point, is very professional in his writing, and with his interaction with other Paupers. Great Job Alex, i look forward to reading more
I'm not the biggest PDC player but I'ts definetly its own format, completely different from normal Classic or STD. Good to see more articles on this. PS: I like that Decklist I may have to give it a try...
Nice article Spike. PDC isn't just about playing on a budget. It has a complicated meta game with many different arch types including combo and mono blue control. I would also say that the PDC player run events are one of the most professionally done on MTGO.
I simply love PDC..I wish DCI would hold sanctioned PDC events. I think more players would be interested. Especialy players like myself who are on a budget, but like the Tournament scene, and dont have the money to buy 15-20 dollar duals for Standard events.
I love articles about pdc and the format owns. It's a great format for players of all budgets and I hope this article helps stir more interest in the format.
Your paragraphs, aernt paragraph looking, your decklist is doublespaced, which is annoying, umm... you dont use any bolds, or anything to define any differences between top changes or whatever.
I liked your article, pretty cool. The combos have been mentioned before (www.magicthegathering.com) but I think your takes on them are pretty sweet. A tiny tune up and they could actually be awesome! Thinking of infinite turns at the moment..
Thanks for the comments folks! You might find that my decklists aren't the best in the world, because I don't have the opportunity to really playtest them. They're really there to build off of, sort of like a launch pad for better decks.
I'll admit that I am a bit of a multiplayer fanatic, and that my playing styles and thinking tend to reflect as such. I'll try a little more to mix more practical one-on-one combos in.
With the Azusa thing - before today it wouldn't work without omitting a comma, but now it seems that it won't work unless there is a comma. Hopefully once Mitch and Heath get the kinks worked out with the site I can get a little more aquainted with the system.
I like the combos, but they are both something that has been heard of before and really haven't been used due to the major weaknesses mentioned above...
Good writing, work on using the card links better I.E (Azusa, Lost but Seeking) with a comma
I like the combos myself, Yea the are slow, but I am a big fan of Multiplayer Free for alls. I ussually play 5-15 player card FFA games and Infinit combos are seen a lot. Even the slow combos. So great article for me.
The combos are alright, alot of weaknesses, and they'd be pretty slow. I can see the Walk the aeons maybe being full combo by 5 turn 5-6, but a naturalize, or a counter, or a critter kill can cripple your combo. Making it pretty weak. Why not throw in some remands for defense?
Quiet Kitteh Mcnitteh. In your dreams haha :) Jk. Thanks for being one of my best testers and not bringing your powerhouse decks. After all, the decks are designed for casual not exactly your tournament "Bring Down the House" decks :)
I like the part where you say you dont advocate one strategy over the other(no one believes that )

Excellent work as always, Pete. Keep it up!

Nicely done, it is good to see you here. Beeing a PDC player myself i really enjoy reading some well written articles.

Awesome! As a writer for budget myself, it's nice to seen new takes on innovative decks. Good writing and good use of pictures too!

Could you please explain why it was hard to read? It could help improve the next one.

You def turned things around this article and i'm glad you gave it a lot of time and thought. Can't wait to see what else you have up your sleeve.
