I printed the first articles for future reference. This one just came hot off the printer as well. Great research, very informative, appreciate the hardwork put into it!

    Draft:

    Game 1:

My opponent is Sturmersmith, a very good player that I've met and lost to in previous zendikar drafts... Yikes !

Oran-Rief Survivalist comes down for my opponent followed b a kicked Goblin Bushwhacker but no attackers mean I won’t be having that snake for lunch.

Really? Doesnt seem like a good player.
He could have played the kicked bushwacker, attack with boa with G up, get in 3 damage ( unless you decide to chump) and then play the survivalist.

Rectruiter coming in part II :)

  • Building Your Classic Collection - Red, Part I   15 years 17 weeks ago

Enjoyable read, I only really started playing classic since late last year due a good friend beating me every game with his tier 1 stuff and needed inspiration then and read another article by yourself (http://puremtgo.com/articles/classic-taxonomy-part-ii)

Being on a budget I could never afford the Force of will and all the dual lands needed by most of the decks on that list so I choose stompy as my first try at beating my friend.

So when I was reading this article I noticed you never mentioned Imperial Recruiter for that deck.
I have found him to be a very solid card for pulling Magus or even an Avalanche Riders
Does he not merit an honourable mention?

Anyway once again thx for the great articles.

Wow, I was thinking about doing this myself with keeping a database of prices to see trends in cards. Is your data public somewhere to be exported by chance?

  • Building Your Classic Collection - Red, Part I   15 years 17 weeks ago

I have to disagree about there being no hate against red in classic right now. I think that was true about a month ago, but people have wised up.
True Believer has shown up, I've been seeing more Umezawa's Jittes out, lifelink creatures are making appearances, and Chalice of the Void shuts off Lightning Bolts pretty fast. Also people are figuring out how to play around burn - being more careful with their life totals, not popping fetch lands as soon and not using the painful tutors as much. And Yawgmoth's Will. Now Ad Naus decks can take a beating and still go on to (yawg)win.
That's been my experience anyway. I was able to pay for tournaments with winnings due to RDW for about a month, but I've been getting stop cold the last few events I've been in.

There's no way skyfisher over casualties is correct p1p1.
Amusing none of you opponents had any way to interact with Emeria.

I feel like you're missing a lot of nifty 1-of tutor targets. Some ones to consider:
    - Mnemonic Nexus - feels so good to tutor this up against mill decks to make sure you can get there on the primary win con.
    - Echoing Truth/Decay - Easily transmutable and instant speed answer to tokens.
-Cremate - It is nice to have a tutorable instant speed graveyard removal.

I would most def. run mystical teachings in this deck.

It is rarely a bad idea to build in a more efficient back-up win con like Oona, or Skeletal Vampire.

  • Dissecting the Horde: Inside the Best Control Deck in Commander   15 years 17 weeks ago

You’re dripping irony. We would have a much better discussion of card choices and deck strategies if you would spend more time arguing for or against a card and less time lecturing me for daring to respond to criticism.

  • Why do we have formats? My take on Classic Tribal and its Apocalypse.   15 years 17 weeks ago

In general I like the restriction on non-creature spells idea, but don't restrict lands. Cards like Contested Cliffs, Kher Keep, Unholy Grotto, etc. can help define the tribal format in a good way for certain tribes, and some lesser tribes sort of require difficult to manage mana bases. They're definitely doable with a healthy selection of duals and fetches, but otherwise would be quite a challenge. If you're worried about Depths/Bazaar just ban those.

  • Dissecting the Horde: Inside the Best Control Deck in Commander   15 years 17 weeks ago

Here's the thing: I was trying to find a polite way of saying that you don't seem to be taking criticism well. And you don't seem to be very good at taking the criticism *about* taking criticism.
So let's just say that you're right, I'm wrong, and I'm not going to comment further on anything else you may write in this thread or in the future.

The best rule for internet rhetoric (as borrowed from the ideal response in the Iterated Prisoner’s Dilemma) is to respond in kind. Rude gets rude, civil gets civil.

With that basic tenet in mind, here’s a condescending lecture for you:
When you say “When you publish something you are the one making a very public statement. You are extending an implicit invitation to other people to critique your ideas and opinions. And not everyone is going to agree with your viewpoint. That's the nature of writing.”
surely you must see that it applies to everyone. Critics aren’t immune from criticism. Note that every one of my responses provide reasons for why the suggested cards will or won’t work in the deck. Far from your characterization of them as "I'm right, you're not, end of story." To the contrary, you’re suggesting that there should be no discussion, no debate. I think I have more faith in the PMTGO community that you do.

  • Dissecting the Horde: Inside the Best Control Deck in Commander   15 years 17 weeks ago

A good writer needs to take his (or her) ego out of the equation when reviewing criticism, even if that criticism isn't necessarily very constructive.
When you publish something you are the one making a very public statement. You are extending an implicit invitation to other people to critique your ideas and opinions. And not everyone is going to agree with your viewpoint. That's the nature of writing.

Now, defending your position is one thing, but anger at people who are offering valid counterpoints (even if IceAge's tone was less then pleasant) is another. IA raises some very salient issues about the strength of your card choices with respect to the deck archetype, and about the stability of your mana base with respect to the land percentage. I'm not saying he's right or wrong, but I am saying that your response (which came across as "I'm right, you're not, end of story.") effectively indicates you're not interested in discussion.

  • Pauper to the People- Return of the Night   15 years 17 weeks ago

Indeed this was my experience as well. The deck runs smoothly but I found myself mana flooded in most of my games too. A singleton Cenn's enlistment perhaps?

The Basilicas work great though, bouncing kabira crossroads kept me alive several times. In one game, the crossroads probably gave me about 10 life or something as I bounced one of the two repeatably.

  • Why do we have formats? My take on Classic Tribal and its Apocalypse.   15 years 17 weeks ago

Sadly yes... and I'm almost positive they will be over polite as well.. just to be jerks... (not sarcasm...I mean they will be overly nice so you can't say they are being jerks.. even though they are only being nice to be jerks.. if that makes sense)

  • Why do we have formats? My take on Classic Tribal and its Apocalypse.   15 years 17 weeks ago

ah ok, if it's % based already, they you can probably figure out an optimal number of rounds per person. I suppose it might be dependent on the total amount though.

Ie. If it's 12 tickets, and the most optimal # of rounds leaves 7 people in winning, you might have to randomly chose some people to get 1 ticket instead of 2 or something.
