Apparently, the odds of getting an old car are about 1 in 720 or so. 1 per 20 boxes.
Nice marketing ploy - the old cards idea got me to play in the midnight prerelease, despite getting up at 5am on Friday. Opened nothing, but it was fun.
Today's prerelease opened zero old cards, but Saturday one player opened a Tolarian Academy.
As has been guessed, I was using the verb 'topdeck' in its scientific sense, as I had direct knowledge of their hand. I had a lot of bad luck in that event (and a lot of good hands too). Note how I mentioned the poor start the U/W Control deck had, as a counter to luck, it was like 5/7 lands in hand, maybe 6/8 even. But he really did draw relevant card after relevant card afterwards. I also mentioned how lucky I was that the RDW guy didn't beat me when a single Fireblast in his top 20 would have. I hope that convinces you I was trying to stay neutral in analysis, even if tone was somewhat frustrated.
As far as the deck goes, I'm fairly convinced I still want a single LED somewhere, and I've been trying to get Moat in the maindeck (changing Brainstorms to Enlightened Tutors, cutting most blue). I'm not sure the latter plan is correct.
now all of a sudden it becomes trolling. why cannot someone post their belifes without someone saying it is trolling. i happen to know of a few players that share the same opinion .trolling would be if i called a guy named whiff gay or a guy with a guitar who writes bad articles a noob wait nevermind it is true
As per usual with anyone contributing something real there will be trolls. Sadly (or not) this one isn't even good at it. Good article Whiffy. Bazaar seems an impressive player though Ive never faced him online (wrong circles I'm guessing). The deck CTC brings me back to the old days of extended with the decks you mention. I don't envy people running decks in opposition to this as it looks ridiculous. I've never been a huge fan of instakill magic but then for me its not always just about the win but the style as well. On the other hand if a two card combo wins well thats the way to build up prizes. Good job as per usual Mr Penguin.
seriously if you have a problem with someone why not take it up with him like what does this prove ?
anyway nice article whiffy i have a great idea other clans name the deck they make with the teams name as a first name like team mkm in legacy puts that as a prefix on their creations so does meandeck in vintage ala meandeck gifts maybe you could do something like ..team ME or team eternal yep you can all thank me later
so that makes it okay that he really thinks that but doesn't say it? ah ok just checking. so if i think he looks retarted but only say it to my friends i guess it is fine too.
I assume that in all instances where he said he topdecked it is because bazaar got a good look at his hand with discard. you have to remember that this is a very quick shorthand of the matches.
if you were retelling a tourny to your friends would you say that you drew poorly when you lost, or that the opponent had the cards in his hand to stop you, or that he topdecked outs? ill bet a lot of people would say something similar to option 3.
how funny that the guy would say [in all instances of the games lost] that his opponents top decked . as if he never ripped one of the top. further more he is known for that type of poor sportsmanship attitude around mtgo or so i have heard from other players. nice article guys
If they do the priceless treasures thing online, first they should be all foils. Second, they should be all cards worth 10+ tix on the secondary market. My list would be something like this:
Foil Baneslayer Angel
Foil Elspeth, Knight Errant
Foil alt-art Mutavault
Foil Reflecting Pool
Foil Goblin Lackey
10 cards -- foil dual lands from MED II and III
Foil Mana Drain
Foil Bazaar of Baghdad
Foil Grindstone
Foil Wasteland
Foil Earthcraft
Foil Mox Diamond
Foil Force of Will
Foil Phyrexian Dreadnought
Foil Lion's Eye Diamond
Foil Natural Order
Foil Vampiric Tutor
Foil Abeyance
Foil Null Rod
Foil Lotus Vale
Foil Undermine
Foil Orim's Chant
Foil Vindicate
Foil Pernicious Deed
Foil Patron Wizard
Foil Entomb
Foil Ichorid
5 cards -- foil fetchlands Onslaught
Foil Chrome Mox
Foil Vedalken Shackles
Foil Engineered Explosives
Foil Umezawa's Jitte
Foil Tarmogoyf
10 cards -- foil rav block shocklands
Foil Daze
Foil Gush
That's 60ish cards, which should be enough for the promotion. The last two commons aren't currently available as foils online, and would be highly valuable until eventually released with their normal sets.
Invisible Army
Invisible Force
Phantom Force
Veiled Force
Secret Force (sorry, I had to...)
Shifty Soltari
Sly Soltari
Secrets of the Soltari
Ethereal Assault
Covert Strike
The Soltari Inquisition
Thank you, as it means a lot to me.
I know I overreacted at some cards, but that was only cause I was over excited and cause if you skip the mana cost they all look so good. And even with mana cost, you say "eh Zendikar has all those fetchers and stuff"...
But yes, apparently I was wrong, but to understand I'm just excited :)
Also note that as I already set in article I only mostly meant for Zendikar Block and not STD or EXT or anything else.
I also know that cards like Electropotence wary, but they could be useful at some points and may see tournament tables.
Post-prerelease, now

Multiple suggestions are ok? If so, awesome; if not, please ignore all beyond the first.

i gotta agree. just because people remain anonymous doesn't mean that they don't have opinions or what not. they make valid points all the time!

What is really amusing is the troll posted that right after Mike Gillis posted a kudos for job well done. :P

if this list were published i would actally like to see non foil lackey as its not available.
I absolutly love that you are so judgemental about other people and hide behind an anon post. gj. i hope that you feel better about yourself.

bazaar's actually pretty nice :/
i've played him a couple times and if i go "gg, sorry about mana" or what have you.
he always responds cordially.
if he's telling his friends something else, that's fine - that's what they're there for =)
sure why not just go and say i only lost because they got lucky sounds like a bit of a person whom has poor social skills
