Why not run tukatounge thallid, it comes down on turn 1 and neuters any sacrifice effects until they kill it, twice. Also, if we're trying to max out the mono Black matchup. how about naya blades rather than bant blades. Admittedly bant blades are far better against aggro decks.
I know that its kind of the point to offer some speculation on the impact of some new cards on the format but, it seems premature for people getting into a heated debate on the impact of a card that hasn't even entered the format yet.
Personally, I think strip mine won't actually have a huge impact although it will be played in pretty much every deck besides dredge. Because it is almost an auto-include, I think people will try to shoehorn it into whatever deck they are playing but not necessarily build whole decks around it. Sure a Strip Mine deck could open with a Mine and plop down Crucible of Worlds but if its getting beat down by Tarmogoyf of taking 50 damage to the face from Charbelcher then it won't really matter. I can't remember the last time there was a viable LD deck in any format (Ponza?).
Actually I agree with not including it. It is too unreliable. A UWx or UBx deck typically runs quite a few non island blue sources and like you every time I play it my opponent seems to get their non island sources.
I had choke in earlier builds, but didn't really find that it did enough. It's decent, but most times its no where near as devastating as it promises to be. It might just be that i've been unlucky and my opponents have drawn their only non island blue sources each times ive played the card, and i does increase in value with the extra "real" duals we're getting in MED3 so its entirely possible that im wrong with its exclusion.
well put KATAS and yea like strip mine was legal back then there were no CRUCIBLE OF WORLDS AND LIFE FROM THE LOAM based decks....0o
every deck in vintage can and has run it manaless ichorid,tezslaver/vault,mud..i own alot of old revised cards and strip mine was not fun back then will be even less now check CoW/LftL
Thank you fierce, thats exactly what i was trying to do. Personally i find it really difficult when looking at a list of cards to actually see whats going on, and find images/deck files help my understanding massively. I also thought it would break up the reams of writing (my first draft was 4,300 words long.. ive cut lots) and work as a sort of short cut (we process images slightly easier than text) for the reader.
I dunno why all the links point to crucible, also a bunch of things that aren't actual links are links (if that makes sense). The spacing is alot bigger than it seemed in the submission i did, i'll contact JXC to find out what their base formatting options are so i can adjust future articles to look better on the page.
Thyr, what would be more usful/entertaining? , videos of games or a summary of matchups with whats important, sideboarding plans etc etc?
I'd say that's a pretty solid piece you've put together. I particularly enjoyed how you presented the decklist. Presenting cards by cost means nothing when it's the purpose of each card that dictates why it is in the deck. This is particularly useful when trying to make a budget form (which you've already done for us). It is easy to see the actual curve from your deck editor screen shot. Hope to see more from you in the future.
Strip Mine being unrestricted in type 2 is irrelevant. Why bring that up? It was unrestricted at just about the same time that Kird Ape was exiled (heh) in 1.5. Necro was also unrestricted in type 2 - instead they restricted Hymn to Tourach when Necro proved to be a problem. Mistakes are mistakes. Back then mana curves were tech and Taiga was legal in Extended. People didn't know to run 4 Strip Mines! I was young, but I was there, and I ran Strip Mine in every deck automatically. And it did get eventually get put on some list before it rotated into oblivion.
Strip Mine today is only played in Vintage where they can still cast their shht with moxen, Sol Ring, Lotus, Mana Crypt/Vault, etc. But Strip Mine is banned in Legacy for disrupting honest mana bases. You can't run or fetch up basics to play around it. If your deck is 8 fetches, 8 duals, and 6 basics, then you're reasonably safe against Wasteland. But with a singleton Strip Mine, not only do they now have 5 Wastelands, but they can also Strip the basic you just fetched up.
Unleashing Strip Mine on a format that knows what it's doing (not the Magic community of 1995-7) and that lacks Vintage jewelery has never been done before. And it will suck if they allow four.
The fact that so many writers are covering the double-whammy of MED3 + Exiled should emphasize the importance of August. Paper formats don't get shocked like this. Drain. Balance. Bazaar. Tinker. whoa!
We'll get the Beta Balance in a future MED set. Otherwise they'd be limiting this card to a release of just 5,000 copies, some of which are going to owners of 4x sets. Under 10,000 copies is how rare an A/B/U rare is, right? They can't do that to a format. For 2009 that's probably enough copies for everyone, but not for all time. Especially as people quit and leave cards in their accounts. Consider how many Goyfs and Bazaars we have or will have. Why should Balance be several times more rare?
I did read your whole article even though I replied to something to in the beginning. :)
Anonymous - 59 cards, 1 Strip Mine, and the Strip Mine swings the game. Everyone will run it, and everyone will randomly lose to it.
Why are my paragraph breaks messed up? I had to insert br tags manually. And they made it too big.
Hi there. I am sorry that this is another exiled article. I could not foretell that Steve, Tyler, and Pete would all produce similar content. However I had endeavored to try and set my article apart with some Vorthosian images. Completely out of my control the images have vanished from the page.
Please understand that these are my thoughts and reactions as an avid classic player. The fact that I dislike strip mine should not sway your thoughts. If you like Strip, by all means say so. But I don't understand why some of you are so bent out of shape that I dislike it. At any rate, for the people who read this I thank you for your attention but I have no sympathy for "haters" complaining about another exiled article. I clearly state that this is in fact an exiled article before you even click the link. If you didn't want to read the content you should not have opened the page.
I liked the article. I don't know much about 100 card singleton so it was informative. Next time please include some matches so we can see how the deck performs! :)
Yes, please stop whining about Strip Mine. It's not an auto-include in non-aggro decks. It used to be unrestricted in Type II, so I think Classic will somehow manage.
Also this is probably the third article on the site which says the exact same thing with regards to the "restructuring of classic". I know you wanted to write an article, but you were beaten to the punch. I think what you have to add to the discussion would have been better posted as a comment to the guy who posted the first article.
All of our m10 cards are for sale on the site that are in our main account. The only other accounts that I have them on are the bot accounts. I've always disliked hoarding and trying to manipulate the market at the players expense. I'm much more interested in building a solid brand name and reputation than making a quick buck. The prices are actually influenced by bot sales and site sales and if you check between the site and all the bots you can almost always find every card in stock on one of them.
Hey buddy, why not stop hiding behind an anon post, especcially if your going to call out names.
And while you may be correct that strip/crucible is not going to be acheived fast your absolutly wrong about strip. If a player builds his deck to make the most of crucible you will see t1 or 2 cow every game and then finding either 1 strip or 4 wastelands would not be so hard especcially if your in black.
There is a reason strip mine is banned in legacy and that is because we do not have reliable artifact based mana. You can go around and feel all self important if you like but the fact of the matyter is that players bitch about wasteland and its a perfectly reasonable card, when we get strip mine they will bitch about that to and mark my words this is the card that will split the format.
i think it has to do with more of a random lockout than entire mine crucible and/or loam abuse and whoa there are a host of good tutors ....lets see the list demonic tutor, vampiric tutor, imperial seal hmmm that looks alot like 4 mines..landstill has tolaria west , the randomness once again of opening with a 2 lander that happens to be 1 non basic, i dont draw any land until turn 4 or 5 while he just sacd mine and wastelanded me oh yea good times ..practical scenarios ...gobos,zoo,merfs all waste n strip you ,you miss land drop 3 4 no wog gg no sower gg no planeswalker no crucible to save you ,no nothing
the complaints and gripes wouldnt be so if we had mana vault sol ring oh and those 6 silly lil ramps that are only legal next to strip mine
I can’t see the images apart from the Banefire one, they all have the red cross of doom. Channel has new art work as well by Rebecca Guay, looking forward to that. I'm still not sure if it’s worth buying the set yet though.
The Necro, Tinker and Berserk art are real bad in my opinion.

Nice article by the way.

They play stripmine you waste it. :)
