Thanks for this. :D I am glad to see you taking the tradition of interviewing up a notch. I consider my interviewees in general to be great players and community members but it is good to hear from pros, particularly unsung ones. :D
Yeah that seems to be beyond my willingness to stretch mana. I'm cool being consistent with 2 to 3 colors and run you over while you durdle with tap lands :D
Standard is dropping like a rock because players are selling the singles than waiting for the next downtime on April 12th to redeem their cards. Also some of the demand from paper players buying sets from online players isn't there.

I'd first pick Wort and then most probably ended up in RB (sacrifice) since my second pick would have been Falkenrath Noble. But since our picks would be totally different we would end up with really different decks.
EDIT: the first time I looked at the pack. I usually pick rare over a card I would pick normally so I forgot to mention it. But in this case I'd go for Tandem Lookout omitting the rare, because that is a card that won't come back. as more archetypes want it and is picked high. This would send me into Bant (UW blink at first but then I'd pick some green cards along the way).
What to do with Guildgates? You can splash the best flyers^_~ Moroi and the Phyrexian 3/3 Flying Flash is not bad. And Ravnica Wurms are good! Sedraxis Specter and Kathari Bomber are awesome. You can also play the best removal more easily (Putrefy/Terminate). Having Guiildgates you can even find better use for the 4/4 Defender Ogre. Anyway there are many possibilities what you can do and having the possibility to even pick trilands is quite rare. Having mana fixation allows you to be slower and just kill your opponent with better cards.
As for good stuff usually sticking to Esper or Grixis works just fine. But you can also go Bant (UW actually can do crazy stuff).
Jund is very awkward since there are cards mostly for aggressive decks or aristocrat decks and you will be somewhere in between while taking more midrange stuff while the obvious RG strategy is to go wide or BR sacrifice so unless you have something like Broodmate Dragon I'd rather avoid this shard. The other shards are way better. I think it is also because simply White and Blue seemed to be more powerful or able to create more value so any shard with one of these colors is better.
Just my 2 cents but also keep in mind that I don't play limited.
Hope you enjoyed the draft! I like MM3^_^. It did not disappoint me.
- bannings hurt card values and create too many feel bads, but adding cards can give other archetypes ways to fight backs. I think this makes a ton of sense.
Well yes, if you dont look further. But if you do look further you see that this only creates a stupid rigid way of playing mtg, removes the pilot factor. You want to avoid what PVitorDamoDaRosa said that game2 "Do you have it ?, If no I win". That isnt playing, that is going through the motions.
Glad you ended up in Grixis. If I were drafting this I would have ended up in Boros (Elspeth, Firedrinker Satyr). The only cards I certainly wouldn't pick were Hypnotic Specter and Spellskite. I even had to read the card Soul Reap. I wouldn't pick either that nor Ruinous Path for that matter since you already had Dreadbore.
It's a bit pity that you didn't pick Dungeon Geists because that card is often underrated.
In Vintage cube this card gets passed often but that card wins games!
I think I would have ended up red/green, first picking Wort, but I don't fault you for picking what you did. I'm finding the format challenging so far, but in a good way. I agree if you get a chance to draft it do so, it is quite fun.
Granted, at this point we don't know if it'll work (last-minute changes are always risky, whether we like them or not), and this will probably break five other things.
First off I am thankful for those that commented on Facebook. I am sorry for the decklist errors it may be that I just copied it wrong when editing. (Sorry Josh!) Now the comment about revolt and some of the new creatures. I agree that they may be worth testing and even adding the fetches this deck can still be "budget" for a Modern deck. I think the biggest question would be are the new creatures better than what is already in there? That is something I will have to test. The deathtouch Kird Ape guy is really good though and so is Liberator. That will just take time to test out :)
Dismember is a necessary evil I fear. Often times the 4 life isn't a huge hit because if you can just remove one blocker you can swing for lethal. I did struggle with removing Vines but I really like Blossoming Defense in its stead. It is still something I want to work on so the Vines may make it back in and the Dismembers may get cut. It will all depend on how testing goes.
In your testing did you find the Dismembers to be worth including over Vines of Vastwood? I know that it feels rather scary to enter an event without access to removal, but Infect and Bogles do it all the time and I want to know from your testing if there were any "must remove" threats that you needed to take out with Dismember (at the cost of 4 life, mind you)? The Dismembers are practically useless against Aggro matchups (with exception of Infect and Affinity), because you can't afford to take 4 life each time you cast it, and Death's Shadows will be too huge for Dismember to handle.
I think Vines of Vastwood are so useful in this deck, giving you additional ways to fend off opposing removal spells, saving your creature in combat, or going for the kill to the face.
(FYI the Strangleroot Geists and Dismembers didn't appear in your deck list).
Really depends on the meta you expect. But yes if you want a 4th crusher that is where I would start for sure.
To answer the Facebook question. I would never fully cut rolling thunder as you can easily support it and it's just that good. But that is my personal preference.
Great interview, thanks for posting it!

The way to punish greedy manabases is to make a Constructed-viable land-freeze card (ala Chandra's Revolution).
I enjoyed the drafting more than the game play.
Yeah that seems to be beyond my willingness to stretch mana. I'm cool being consistent with 2 to 3 colors and run you over while you durdle with tap lands :D
Totally.
You cast ALL THE CARDS. If casting Obzedat, Ghost Council and Cruel Ultimatum in the same game is wrong I don't want to be right.

Anyway Good Job^_~
5 colour good stuff :)
but then what do I cast with all those guildgates :D
yeah complex limited formats are even worse for me now :/ I'm not as good as I used to be.
There were so many guildgates that could have been drafted :'(

Then you are forgiven! I always appreciate the help!
You don't need to apologize to me, I'm the one that messed up and didn't double check it after adding the decklist. My apologies.
This was always a thing I had an issue balancing when I was married, and I made it worse when we had our child. I regret going all in on Magic then.
Good news! WotC isn't incompetent and actually got MM17 working in Pauper today:

This version of Tron seems very sweet.
Would you recommend a 4th Crusher instead of an Automaton?
