    RE:

Nice article, but the videos aren't working.

That's good news. I'm not actually concerned with your behaviour, which is always pretty fair and ethical, and you do always keep up good relations with your customers. I'm really just a bit frustrated that people play into these artificial market bubbles instead of looking for fair deal more of the time.

I Would play fiery temper with Gathan Riders but versus MBC paying the extra R is ok when you have mana untapped. but if you go by their game and do nothing to fire the temper at them they will probably win anyway

  • Whiffy's Lunch Box- The Rouges Gallery   16 years 14 weeks ago

when having multiple colossus on the deck and infinite loop is generated, as i don't have someone to test this, it was played on solitaire and the game was ended on a Draw after the grindstone was activated so i suppose that someone will be timed out.

  • Whiffy's Lunch Box- The Rouges Gallery   16 years 14 weeks ago

    what about with multiple colossi?

    good article, btw!

  • Whiffy's Lunch Box- The Rouges Gallery   16 years 14 weeks ago

Just checked on mtgo putting the darksteel colossus on a deck that is going to be Grindstoned with servant on play and what happens is that the colussus will re-Shuffle itself as many times as possible until it is the only card on the deck, everytime it get dumped into the graveyard it will trigger the ability to be shuffle until all other cards are put on the graveyard, then it's ability will trigger one last time and it will be the only card on the deck.

Your right that is too high. I'm lowering it now.
  • State of the Program - February 6th 2009   16 years 14 weeks ago

Seems like the sell price for Quirion Ranger is $1 and the buy price is $0.30. That's quite a mark-up. I was able to find a sell price of $0.50 just now without trying very hard. I think there's a lesson to be learned here.

Conflux has a couple of Multicolor Lands, although they do have drawbacks. I like Ancient Ziggurat (which can only be used for creature spells).

If you haven't seen the whole Conflux set, go to Beta Gatherer (http://beta.gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Default.aspx) and do an advanced search by set name.

  • State of the Program - February 6th 2009   16 years 14 weeks ago

The top selling card (for Standard) this week was Relentless Rats... and it fell in price? That seems odd. Being a much reprinted common, I wouldn't think that the lowering of it's price caused people to buy it.

I notices the big gainers seriously outmatched the big losers. +$28.75 to -$11.48. The gains still win even if you take FoW out of the picture.

Speaking of FoW, I really hope they give some away as prizes or release Alliances sometime, because $70 (and climbing) is a crazy amount of money to drop on a card, imo.

Loved the loser graphs, for those cards whose prices rotted over time. Spiritmonger is down nearly $40 a copy from it's high point? Crazy.

Another good, but more recent, example is Scrying Sheets. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure this used to be close to a $10 card back when it was standard legal. It's now at $1.75.

  • State of the Program - February 6th 2009   16 years 14 weeks ago

Ya know, I thought that looked wrong.

  • State of the Program - February 6th 2009   16 years 14 weeks ago

Actually, that's about an 80% drop in price. Conversely, if it went from the 9ish that its at now to the 50ish that it was at that would be a 510% increase.

You can't have more than a 100% drop in price unless the price becomes negative.

Very interesting article which I enjoyed. Thank you for writing.

I think it is very likley that the release of Masters edition III will trigger the split to form online Legagcy, and so with that My card predicted to rise is one that will hopefully see play in that format - therefore I would strongly recommend buying aether vial at this time. The card is banned in extended hence its low online price tag, and although it see play in classic I feel the real home for this card is legagcy. With other uncommons from this block like Eternal Witness selling in excess of 4 tickets each I think it is highly reasonable to expect the Vial to rise in value come October.

The other card which I think will rise is Forbidden Orchard, one of the primary reasons for the rise will be the playability of the card increases with the release of Oath of Druids. The Orchard is a perfect Oath enabler and will see play in classic Im sure. Additionally with the rotation of the onslaught sacrifice lands mana bases wont be as splashable as before, so a good multicolourmana producing land may find its way into certain extended decks too, representing a double whammy for this previously online-overlooked rare to rise considerably in value.

Just my two prediction of rising cards in the months to come.

    Once again nice article

Nitpick: Chimney Imp costs 5, not 3 as you stated (yes it is that bad!)

  • Shard of Alara Draft Twenty-Two   16 years 14 weeks ago

Maybe going into Esper would've been nice with such clear signals that it was open.

  • Five Up Five Down and Five to Consider   16 years 14 weeks ago

Explosives & Mox have just recently risen because of the current ext season. I don't see them holding their current value at all. Explosives was hanging around $10 as a classic staple before the ext season began .... why wouldn't they fall after the season is over?

  • State of the Program - February 6th 2009   16 years 14 weeks ago

MVW is worth 3 tix more than 222? Man... I should really get myself a draft set in case it ever fires when I'm around... I've been playing 222 since conflux came out in paper as AAA was getting stale and I like opening duals... but maybe I should be in MVW... I used to own that format when it originally came out and we were rochestering... problack falcon... empyrial armor. DIE.

Thanks again Hammy! This series Rocks!

What ever happened to the aritcle on all the different dealers?

Of and how about an analysis of foil card prices... I never have any clue how much some are worth....

  • Shard of Alara Draft Twenty-Two   16 years 14 weeks ago

That Zombie > Capsule is bad in any situation

  • Pauper Burn's Guide to Victory   16 years 14 weeks ago

I dont see why you would want to waste a lava dart versus a crypt rat.I REALLY dont. Mesmeric Fiend would be bad anyway and its not that around. Virulent Sliver or even Spellstutter sprite are ok targets but not meta defining and obviously not worth of including Lava Dart.

  • State of the Program - February 6th 2009   16 years 14 weeks ago

Ham this whole series has really come a long way. You present some great data and you do a lot for the MTGO community. Thanks.

  • Pauper Burn's Guide to Victory   16 years 14 weeks ago

So you're saying there are NO x/1 creatures that a burn deck would want to kill in today's PDC meta? I find that difficult to believe, what with virulent slivers, crypt rats, mesmeric fiends, etc in the format.

Maybe it's not useful now, but I certainly wouldn't be surprised to see it slide in and out of decks if there's a need to handle multiple x/1 creatures for a Red Deck.

  • State of the Program - February 6th 2009   16 years 14 weeks ago

I really wanted to add in the foils, unfortunately, foil prices are woolly at best and can be out of date far more often than regular cards seem to be. I decided in the end to keep it simple (or as simple as possible given the circumstances).

  • One Double O #6 - Card Evaluation   16 years 14 weeks ago

ham: Ok.. I'm working on it so u'll probably see it in #9..

Thnx to both for the comments =)

  • State of the Program - February 6th 2009   16 years 14 weeks ago

The HamJones breaks 4000 for the first time and there's no note of it? Also, you missed the biggest part of the Feb promos: they're being included in the prize pool now!

P.S. All that complicated math I did and no inclusion of foil prices in the pack EV? ;-)

  • Five Up Five Down and Five to Consider   16 years 14 weeks ago

I liked this very much. A few quick thoughts of my own on cards. Explosives is the same in classic as it is in ext and is a staple of the format and will be for years to come. Chrome mox is on the way out what with petal and soon mox diamond only really abusable in two deck types. i give it a 50/50 shot at surviving. ialso think click is dying to get into some classic lists.
did you play in the gp?
