Well, if you're a big-mana deck that plans to be able to ignore their cheap counters, I think you need to side out bad cards in the matchup, and maybe side in more overpriced but effective stuff. Say 4 Haunting Hymns to begin, and then maybe 2-4 more 5+ CC threatening spells.
It's a good comment that MUC can only counter 5 MD sorceries / instants. I always have a tough time playing non-permission Control decks vs. MUC. However, I'm not sure what you do post-board when they bring in the Faerie Trickeries as well.
Fine article, I always like to read a tourney walkthrough. Also, some good quick tips at the end for facing MUC. One of the biggest problems players run into when facing MUC is convincing themselves they don't have a chance and playing slopily or giving up too fast as a result. Also, thx for the positive comments about "Running The Numbers". I am glad you like reading it.
Glad you enjoyed it. PREs are awesome, and more people should do them. It's like a mini-PE, and free (plus the cards are cheap), but you still get the fun of competition with cool people.
It's nice to see things getting back to normal a bit around V3. Hearing about PDC PRE's, etc, is a great thing right now. A very good report and congrats on the win!
While the topic of the article is certainly interesting, I think it lacked enough depth in the analysis. Two glaring ommisions in my opinion are the red burn deck and dragonstorm. The former loses only barbarian ring, while the latter becomes the de facto combo deck in the format. There were also some very interesting decks towards the end of last season, like Kiki-Pestermite, Faeries, and Ninjas that will require some evaluation come October.
Oh, and Goblin Bidding was one of the best decks while it was Standard legal. Even after 7th rotated out of standard. So your statement about it seems way off base.
Im not much of an extended GURU but angelfire could be a good extended deck with rotation. It will gain access to some pretty good mana exel im not sure how it would do vs some of the faster aggro decks that are bound to show up but with fetch lands mana screw should not be a problem for it like when I played it in std. Never know till someone gives it a shot.
The trading issues really are a killer for those looking to dump IPA goodies they should just hang in there and play Classic. :)
ok you are f'ing retarded when it comes to rage reflection..... that card has been amazing every single time i've xast it or seen it cast its won the game. you hold it until you have a good or better board and then you drop it down and win. how is it ever bad? i splashed it in muy g/w beats last weekend and got to see an oversoul and a finks (with shield of the oversoul) bash my opponents head in. then the next game when i dropped it it was a creature stall in which i needed no removal spells to beat through
ahh josh claytor the wannabe. im sorry but you are awful. have youeven drafted this set? i've only gotten into green and im already annoyed. i wish i wasnt at work so i could have time to tell you how bad this has been.
The mention of Angelfire seems totally random. As far as decks like that go the Extended decks with Lightning Angel, Trinket Mage, etc seem much better.
this list is a pretty bad one. You just took the new (bad) mono green deck, added cursecatcher, and for some reason one of the hybrid lands, (plus the obvious kitchen finks) and called it a top10. GJ
With all the kerfluffle around V3 I think a lot of people have lost sight of the < 6 months rotation. The only problem is, 1:1 trading has been jacked due to the myriad of trade issues (namely, there's no way for many players to search the single message board for cards). This will likely put many people who were waiting to sell their IPA rares in a bind as they've suddenly lost their only avenue of selling their cards directly to others... forcing them to take the 'bot hit'.
I think its about time we start calling for resignations in WOTC. Either the people they have assigned to develop the product is woefully underskilled/unsuitable or someone in a management position has a startegic vision not lligned with what we want. One way or another, head should roll, either in the design/development team or in top management!
I find it highly interesting that a user was able to create a functioning mtgo in 4 months, that not only looks amazing better than v3, but also appears to have better pretty much everything. Obv it isnt 100% finished, but either is v3.
A comment on the chat filter in v3 also: This is just one more thing in a long line of things that wotc has done that promotes people violating the coc. People are having their accounts suspended for swearing when the only people who can see the swears are the people who opt in to see it. That is completely ridiculous.
I am personally in the process of selling my collection and quitting mtgo. I know alot of others are too (6 of 21 people in my clan are trying to sell out, another 10 of them havnt even logged in to v3, they just quit). Wotc needs to get their act together fast if they want to keep the remaining user base. From what I am seeing online, and reading on the message boards, the majority of people are very unhappy about things the way they are. If you judge wotc by the actions they have taken, this is a program that is going to be dead very soon. There may be enough "hardcore users" that it remains a viable business, but I considered myself a hardcore user up until recently. And I know a lot of people that feel the same.
5 InstantSorceries OF CC >4.
In practice, this is only a problem against some MBC builds.
wound reflection says loss of life not damage so only life loss cards affect it like drain life.
beseech the queen is an awesome card it has yet to be anything but great.

Great report, hope to see more from you :) .

Sorry, the link doesn't work for the new UI skins. Could you please post it here, or edit the article? Thanks.
...you're not really getting the point, are you? :p

Pretty sure you missed the editor's note there.

I dont think angelfire is a legit extended deck. Especially with firemane angel. lol.

A bad place to be for those who are there...

Nice article, but Tribal Flames doesn't rotate out as it's in TS timeshifted.
