:Nitpicking: The 270 pacifism in your account could be an issue. The 55k sitting at mtgotraders is their own choice

You are acting like that is two different problems.

They have 55k *because* half of the accounts they are buying have 270 of them.

The judge question was especially juicy this week. I think it was the first time I got it wrong since you started doing them. Good stuff.

  • State of the Program for May 20th 2016   9 years 4 weeks ago

I know. But they buy collections because they profit from it. If they dont want the pacifism then dont buy collections. Getting 270 from drafting is very different from getting 55k because they make money from it.

This is an issue for those people who sold their collections. I dont think that the buyer is entitled to complain. Not that I think mtgotraders are actually complaining about it.

  • State of the Program for May 20th 2016   9 years 4 weeks ago

He discussed it in more detail last week--MTGOTraders buys whole collections, meaning someone might have 2k in good, tourney worthy cards, but the site also then gets that accounts 200 pacifisms.

  • State of the Program for May 20th 2016   9 years 4 weeks ago

Just so you know, the flashback schedule was added to the MTGO calendar, so we know when they are until at least August.

As for the taking bulk and giving PPs/tix, there would be an initial flood, but it would likely just be relatively steady after the first few weeks. I doubt it would cause long term problems.

  • State of the Program for May 20th 2016   9 years 4 weeks ago

Nice article and suggestions for excess cards.

Nitpicking: The 270 pacifism in your account could be an issue. The 55k sitting at mtgotraders is their own choice ;) The solution for them is to stop buying them.

What if we could shred our bulk for player points? Even if it was 1k for 1 point I would totally do it.

  • Interview with legendary Slovak Magic pro player Matej Zatlkaj   9 years 4 weeks ago

    Thx.
Matej is a really nice guy who also managed to put together more people who love the game and have similar approach. He was the voice of his local community and the voice of reason talking to WotC about the competitive/professional scene. He's done a lot for us Magic players all around the world. I wish him best of luck in his life and I believe he can overcome any obstacle life could possible put in his way.

Thank you for the comment and thanks for reading my articles.
I personally think that some players would really deserve more spotlight, especially those who are really good ambassadors of the game like Matej.

It is nice to hear about MTG players from other parts of the world. Particularly ones that haven't received the attention their American and Japanese counter parts have despite their success. Thanks for the interview. I continue to look forward to your articles on pure.

After editorial review, we have decided to not publish the interview with ScionofJustice.

While Kumagoro did a wonderful job writing it, the subject matter was felt to not be suitable for the site. While it was heavily edited, we felt it was in the best interest of the site to not publish it.

I second Paul's recommendation of taking a stab at creating the content that you've been desiring. Standard Pauper is a rather niche format, so more people discussing it here at PureMTGO could help bolster some interest?

It's very easy to set up an article for the open submission process, plus there is no forced, weekly schedule to uphold. Write when you feel you have something to say or on the schedule that you feel provides the most benefit to your topic. Also, this is a very supportive community, in case you hadn't noticed, so if you are having issues with the Writing Editor (it is fickle...) or just want somebody to take a look at stuff before you submit it, I'm sure some of us can help.

    Couldn't hurt?

According to the rules, effects that say things like "W. Captive gets +2/+2" actually say "This card gets +2/+2" as far as the rules are concerned.

This is one of the reasons cards like Necrotic Ooze actually work.

  • State of the Program for May 13th 2016   9 years 4 weeks ago

They are the same card. Merely different sides of it. Think about putting +1/+1 counters on a land. When you animate a Mishra's Factory and it gets a +1/+1 counter that counter does not go away when the land stops being a creature.

So when the W. Captive flips, it is STILL W. Captive, but it has a flipped status (As K. Killer). So anything that was affecting it, STILL affects it after the flip. The confusing part is that it seems like a different card because its base stats may be different. And if it flipped into some non-creature permanent it would STILL keep the +2/+2 but it would not express it in its stats because non-creatures don't express toughness and power. Hope that helps.

    re

Since I too know about the rule for planeswalkers I agree.

With transforming werewolves not so much. I do not know a rule that says that +2/+2 to W. Captive has any effect on Krallenhorde Killer.

  • State of the Program for May 13th 2016   9 years 4 weeks ago

With the werewolf, it says you can only activate "this ability" once per turn. The +2/+2 ability and the +4/+4 ability are two different abilities. Each can only be done once per turn.

With transforming planeswalkers, they have a built in rule that you can only activate them once per turn no matter what ability you choose.

I doubt Standard Pauper is "dead" so much as quiescent. The player base for it is small enough that if a few people take a break it slows down a lot. Taking a break isn't always a bad thing though. Also, it helps if you contribute to a format, if you want to see it be more active. Contributions tend to be synergistic if they are done with some serious effort in mind. So that's a thought.

Could more pauper content drive more interest (or at least use) of common-rarity cards?

We have some great insights from gwyned published here at from his blog, but rarely much discussion about the standard pauper metagame. These reviews of carrds fall short in a vacuum- rate whatever card however you want, because people aren't making or sharing decklists.

To be clear, there are almost NO playtested standard pauper deck tech anywhere. Musings? Sure. Speculation? Yup.

Yes, I realize that we lost the standard pauper filter on MTGO, but paper products still exist at FNM gaming shops. Most people visiting here already know puremtgo.com support standard pauper since they publish gwyned's content on the forrmat, but why no decklists or inspiration from others? There is a terrible vacuum of this content.

If you have a bazillion Pacifisms, please realize that is currently legal for standard PAUPER, too. As a group, commentary about Pacifism (and their bulk ilk, perhaps Duress?) is far more important than whether (insert non-common rarity card) is worth a sideboard inclusion over a Planeswalker.

...but this content never really comes.

For example, what is the best approach to delirium in standard pauper? Is it even viable? While some have cobbled together some fun decks, it seems to have a slims victories with high ceilings. What would some of the most respected brewers have to say about delirium in standard pauper? What do you see that I might not see?

One man's literal trash is another's treasure, and this certainly holds true for Standard Pauper. Why is content thin on the metagame, if only to encourage new players to build and see strategies before they encounter them in (player-ran) events?

At some point, without being part of playtest groups or guilds or leagues (whatever these are called- see, I don't even know), and seeing little discussion of metagame analysis of standard pauper, am I to conclude it is a dead format, with a couple of players dedicated to initial musings of new cards (side note: isn't this fun for everyone? it also lacks accountability. How were some great cards initially valued? The lists may shock you in hindsight, but I applaud the effort to even do the ratings.)?

I'm at my wits' end, folks. I'm considering dropping off from play and a lot of other hobbies. It seems that things that I enjoy are not enjoyed by others (even on the vast internet; go ahead and find up-to-date metagame or card analysis of standard pauper...I'll wait), but I thought at least I'd ask if there is any content - at whatever length - is planned or if the Standard Pauper ship is sinking.

Thanks. This was a tough post for me to write. I might just need a long break, and avoid advice like 'just copy the winning deck.'

    re

Since you can activate the ability on both sides, why cant you activate the ability of a planeswalker on both sides on same turn ?

And why does Knallenhorde killer get the bonus that was meant for Wolfbitten Captive ? Two different names, the bonus should wear off when flipping in middle of turn...
